@purplehippo Is Obsidian a Microsoft subsidiary by any chance? MS has been pushing hard to push telemetry (or Application Insights as they sell it to developers).

@xrevan86 I guess I should have used caps. I was referring to the modern definition of "social justice", not the old one.

Hillary Clinton doesn't get George Orwell's 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'
      from Washington Examiner
While Orwell favored the pursuit of knowledge, he also knew humanity's innate susceptibility to political malfeasance.

@katiekats Heh. I'm more of a game and world designer, figuring out the rules and in-game explanations for them in order to create a balanced game.

@katiekats It's why I always figure my writing to be more suited for an RPG type background book than a novel. Not that I've actually played a pencil-and-paper RPG in my life though.

@katiekats Perhaps you're the kind of person who likes forum role playing threads then. That involves a lot of character background and in-character writing but less of the "figure out what all the characters should do" things.

@katiekats Fiction has many different parts and it's pretty common for people to be good at one thing and not very good at other things. For example I like to think I'm decent at worldbuilding but I really suck at writing conversations.

From the department of being a stubborn ass, trying to find out if you can really return an IActionResult from a razor page model handler. Eventually found the logic:https://github.com/aspnet/Mvc/blob/037c1ec47d9d38480a493a5d85942f9fdbbec21a/src/Microsoft.AspNetCore.Mvc.RazorPages/Internal/PageActionInvoker.cs#L251 (_result is of type IActionResult).

Github code search is really really shit. Search for "Async" (with the quotes), turns out it doesn't support exact matching. It's bloody code search, I want to specify exact strings.

Really the worst idea socialists have had in the last decades is the incorporation of social justice in progressivism. It's scared away so many people with moderate-economic-socialism sympathies that it's become much harder for socialist parties to actually accomplish something.

A union for tech workers in the US is now a year old. Aside from generating HN discussions I don't believe they've accomplished anything. Commentators point out that maybe being a vehicle of social justice style progressivism deters union membership, that was obviously "incorrect".

The whole thread is a rather comical example of how some people try to get others to support political views they do not hold. Ahem, "the personal is political", "not speaking up is supporting the status quo", etc.

A lightweight privacy focused alternative to Discus. Maker says this about upcoming captcha support:

    """
Captcha support is in the pipeline! :)
With something painless like recaptcha, you can ward off most of the spammers. It's painless for real users because you don't have to select image every time if you're logged into your Google account. For the rest, there'll be a moderation dashboard soon.
    """

I somehow don't trust the privacy marketing anymore.

I wouldn't say #dlang's future is harmed so much as delayed. Andrei Alexandrescu has remarked that it seems to take 5 years for the bad impression from the split to go away (IIRC)). D2 (current version) does seem better designed and picking up stream but I don't see it as a viable mainstream language yet. In a few years however it can come a long way, especially the BetterC stuff.

Chairman of European Parliament wants to double the EU budget, paid for by special tax for Europe. I would say he's out of touch with the actual people of Europe but that would be a bit of an understatement.
