@xj9 #ForgeFed is a specification, not a software package, so it's not as easy to throw up a demo. Like formalizing #ActivityPub itself, it will take time, because people from a number of existing projects have to hash out how their existing stacks will interact. I think it will be worth the wait, but the proof is in the pudding I guess ;-)

@xj9 If it's features are not all usable from a web browser, it's not a replacement for GH. Also, given the recent revelations about the Nodejs library used to inject malicious code for stealing crypto-tokens into people's systems, I think we can be forgiven for not wanting to depend on anything that has even a vaguely Node-ish smell about it ;-) So,@Wolf480pl @alcinnz

@xj9 sorry if that came across more dismissive than it was intended. Those were genuine questions. Based on your answers, "solved problem" is a bit of a stretch.

@Zuph again, do you mean from your POV as a publisher, or as a reader?

@Zuph do you mean from the POV of the person publishing it all, or the person viewing it?

@Zuph
> site searchThat one is a bit of a tug-of-war, because of the way keyword searches were used to organise dogpiling on the birdsite. On Mastodon, you can only do searches for users and hashtags. I figure it would be fairly harmless if I could do a general keyword search on my own instance, or at least on my own posts.

> audio/video embeddingHmm. Have you looked into #PeerTube and #FunkWhale? I think the goal is for media from instances of those to be playable from within the micro-blog apps, but I'm not sure what progress has been made on that in each app so far.

Just to help me get my head around exactly what features are needed, why wouldn't it work to just send a DM with the event details, and @mention everyone you want to invite? Then they RSVP by replying to the DM. If it's an open invite, just make it a normal post. One thing that occurs is what if you want to invite someone who doesn't have a fediverse account. Would that be an issue (it would be with FB too though?

@Zuph I never quite figured out what #Tumblr is. What would you say is the most similar fediverse app to the #UX of Tumblr?

@teslas_moustache I could file a bug, I guess. But my willingness to spend unpaid time helping other people fix their software has been massively eroded by the number of times I get told off (implicitly or explicitly) for trying to keep old devices in service. If the ComfortReader Devs really want their app to work on Android 4.x, I am willing to help isolate the bug, but I can't be arsed being a squeaky wheel anymore.

@teslas_moustache thanks, but my problem with ComfortReader is that the files won't open at all.

These guys work all through the night (in shifts I presume). Although it's hard to see in that photo, they are digging holes and planting row after row of trees, some of them at least 5m tall along either side of newly remodeled road. The scale of it is breathtaking.

@sir @Wolf480pl *tone*, not "time" :-P The fact that I'm mashing away on a touchscreen keyboard instead of a real one (my laptop is in the shop) is probably also not helping my temper ;-)

Hey guys, I have a difficult personal crisis going on that may be bleeding into my posts today. That's not your problem, and I'm sorry if my time has been more aggressive or argumentative than was warranted. I'm going to jack out, take some deep breaths, and try to regain perspective.

@Wolf480pl I'm just being honest. AKAIC Drew has contributed nothing to this discussion *but* ad hominem. I'm sick of gritting my teeth and crafting carefully polite replies while he casually patronises everyone involved in software that isn't a back-end engineer. He can go fuck himself.
