I take MR Weasley's advice on #InternetOfThings "Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can't see where it keeps its brain?”
I trust him because he is an expert on muggle artifacts.

For everyone who is cross about *that* @techuk@twitter.com press release, here's a link to the @TechForUK@twitter.com letter to MPs. I've done it, but as my MP is Graham Brady, suspect there'll be other stuff in his inbox that'll take priority. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScofrzEqXDmKvqEhkuzO6j6gm2f_bsIMwefCtSqXXNX0xN9Cw/viewform
@laura Hell yes.
I've long felt that one feminism's biggest failings (or just unfinished tasks), is that it hasn't made enough progress increasing the respect and prestige associated with traditional "women's work."
I think that's a big part of why carers and educators all over the West are are routinely underpaid.
Judging everything by the metrics of the patriarchy results in all sorts of shitty outcomes.
@eilidhbranch disclaimer: I run the Stirling branch of TechMeetup. We're a nice bunch :)
@eilidhbranch just a single data point, but to me tech is still a field where experience overrules qualifications by a large margin.
By all means do *some* training, as that's a form of experience, but do as much of the thing you want do as you can - then you can hit that "X years experience in Y" CV requirement all the sooner.
Also, since you mention Scotland - check out techmeetup.co.uk to get out and meet people. The Edi event consistently has people hiring who could help with your question
@GreyLinux nice work. Still need to actually order my PCBs ;)
Have you left #Facebook? No? Maybe this will make you think.
“Facebook [...] also tapped its business relationships, lobbying a Jewish civil rights group to cast some criticism of the company as anti-Semitic.”

The Story wandered long in the wildnerness of Ideas before finding its first Teller (and the less said about that tryst, the better). It took time to find one that respected it.
That Teller loved the story, helped it grow strong, then let it go, to find Listeners.
Are you one?

@mquin hmm, I know that spot ;)
Lovely day for it!
Valve has expanded the Steam Play whitelist to include DARK SOULS III and plenty more https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/valve-has-expanded-the-steam-play-whitelist-to-include-dark-souls-iii-and-plenty-more.12963 #SteamPlay #Valve #Steam #Wine
@HerraBRE @chuck is the new federated write.as blogging platform an option? I didn't look at it closely, to be fair, but I saw it pop up in my feed the other day...
@nigeldgreen Tuesday just hit me with "sick child", to which I do not have a counter available. I'll sit this round out :)
Recent events in my Google+ timeline have reminded me once more that the most important rule in communication is the principle of charity: interpreting a speaker's statements in the most rational way possible and, in the case of any argument, considering its best, strongest possible interpretation.

Condemnations come easy. But it's easier to tear things down than to build them up. It's easier to wage war than build peace, to sow mistrust than to make friends. Be good. ❤️
@DistroJunkie sadly (and as awesome as that would be from a FOSS-principled view) it won't help. Even if you can solve the technical side, you also need the average person to trust the results (as that is what empowers peaceful transfer of government), and no technical solution can provide that, because solving the tech issues makes them complex.
Tom Scott puts it far better than I can, so forgive the YouTube link. It's a worthwhile 8 mins.
@ben0_o yeah, I hear you on motivation. I have a ton of stuff to do, but somehow I spend a ton of my free time playing games instead. Yes, sometimes you need downtime, but I'm probably taking it too far....
@ben0_o OK that's the best one yet ;)
Boring weeks suck. What projects do you have in mind? I always seem to have more ideas than time/budget allow (c.f. unfinished radio-mesh temperature sensor network, and a machine learning model for consuming the data).
@Matter perhaps you could make the move gradually, perhaps via banking? :)
@amolith I'm #degoogled so @fdroidorg is my only real source of apps. They rock ;)
@Matter @blunaxela @e4rache I'll be there, 95% likely anyway. It'll be my 7th, so if you need tips I can try to help :)
