@asovereignscot @timapple @kungtotte the WICFactory issue is DX11, you need to drop to DX9 for Proton to run it.

(This is the 2 line patch I mentioned, which allows Wine to run the DX11 version via DXVK. Once I know how to rebuild Proton, I will apply it ;p)

@timapple pretty much all out of the box. Path of Exile needs so.e work but I expected that (long time PoE player via Lutris)...

@PocketNerd indeed, it's in the FAQ - devs see the sale as the platform you played on for the most time in during the first 2 weeks after purchase. Since the *client* is Linux, that's what the platform reports as, even if you're using Proton to play.

There's a few things on my wishlist I should try...

Day 1 of playing with Valve's new Proton software.

It's awesome. Seriously, this is a game changer. The ability to play a game with no Linux version *and have it show as a Linux sale* to the developer, is great. This is what we needed, as it allows us to use Wine without the nagging feeling that we're undermining ourselves by reducing the apparent market share.

Now I need to learn how to rebuild Proton so I can include a 2line patch for Path of Exile.

Do any #rstats people have good solutions for grabbing data from JSON APIs into a data.frame where the results have an unequal number of fields? And to complicate, some fields are further nested frames?

I'm slowly figuring out a solution that loops over each URL, and then merges using plyr::rbind.fill() - but that doesn't like the nested frames. Looking at flattening the structure now, but I figured I'd check I'm on a good track...

@northernjamie hmm, will have to see. OSS EU is mid October and I'm already down for that. FOSDEM et al. in February too... Might have used up my available "leave the kids with my partner" time quota :)

* practice using the R jsonlite package to scrape APIs
* figure out using something like dplyr::do for fleshing out the results with supplemental API calls
* cache the lot, this API is heavily rate limited

Should be fun...
