Fucking pissed at white dudes in free software prioritizing exercising their free speech by showing "look, I can make jokes which affect people not like me" and then being like "free software is a movement for everyone"

Nobody has ever questioned whether *I* belong. But I've tried to bring in plenty of other people who left because they didn't feel welcome.

I believe in free software, I want it to be a movement for everyone. Most of these people would say "I do too".

    SO FUCKING ACT LIKE IT.

Why do people put so many emotions into postings. We are on the Internet. Whenever you write a swear word, just don't press the send button. Re-read your statement and rephrase the section.

If you are annoyed/sad/angry/… Keep calm. Breath. Think about how it could be explained that things are, like they are right now. If you know the answer, write a blog post with sources. If you don't know the answer, write non-suggestive questions.

    I hope the internet becomes a calm place again 🤞 🤞 🤞

This account will host cases of GDPR "compliance" which are either actually non-compliant, abusive or use dark patterns to wrangle the user into accepting terms of service that track him or otherwise abuse their data.

Keep an eye on #GDPRHallOfShame and #DarkUX. Will boost nice relevant toots. Be civil though.

lol, amp. i noticed that a page would suddenly appear after 8 seconds of waiting if i disabled js, which seemed pretty weird.

turns out that there's a css3 anim to hide the page for 8 full seconds (that is skipped when the js loads ofc).

this is *required* by the amp standard. your page fails validation if you don't do this.

sure makes these goog results look kinda suspicious, huh

@kev good luck! I think I would struggle most with the lack of an end to end encrypted messenger - currently using Matrix but also Signal, Wire, etc. Would not want to go back to SMS.

    /me bookmarks blog for updates...

@timapple @codesections interesting discussion. My approach is usually "cloud" (actually self hosted stuff at home) with local caching. So my laptop/phone etc can catch up with other changes when online, but work continues when offline.

Two good examples - I use Taskwarrior for to do lists, synced between devices using the Taskd server. For files/contacts/calendars etc, I use @nextcloud which will keep specific directories in sync across devices. Very handy.

If you tried watching #DWebSummit, as I did via the live streams, you might have wanted to throw your device out the window. The Youtube stream was abominable.

HARK! I bring good news tech faces.

Being the Internet Archive and all, they had a strong archival plan in place. Despite Google being all sucky and stuff 🤷♂️ you will still be able to binge watch the sessions. The news has come in that archives are good.

@puffinux the interesting part would be to set up a matrix homeserver, use that account in an E2EE chat, and check if the traffic was actually encrypted, I guess. But I don't currently have time ... maybe when Dendrite is released... ;)

@puffinux @joseph are you using E2EE on Matrix? My partner and I are trialling it as a Delta alternative at the moment, so I'd be interested in your thoughts

@puffinux @joseph I've used it with my primary mail without too much issues. Sometimes I get duplicate notifies from K9 and Delta, but otherwise no problems.

Delta's great to other Delta clients, but a bit weird when interacting with non Delta users - every message is unthreaded, so after a chatting for a while their inbox is a mess... And there's always the potential for your provider to decide that high-frequency short messages looks a lot like spam, and block you for it...

Messing with the Meetup API (don't ask). A given reply has many optional fields, so a reply could have 30-50 fields.

Got a method together for turning a collection of these replies into a tidyverse tibble, with NAs for missing fields, but its a bit ugly and slow. Does anyone have a good workflow for this?
