@m @Keith I agree. There are ways to filter the instances your instance fedorates with (if you're admin), but that's a full time job in itself.

@Keith yeah, it is a lot to take in. I rarely look at it, and just stick to my personal timeline, as well as the Fosstodon timeline.

The Corporation behind and the Admins of Facebook can see your “Private Messages.”

The Admins of Mastodon can see your Direct Messages. They aren’t private.

With Mastodon, you can spin up your own instance and be your own Admin.

Ultimately, don’t use any of these tools for actual private messages. Use Signal, Matrix/Riot or another end to end encrypted messaging tool.

@mattmcnutt @brandon documentation is easier said than done most of the time. Whilst in the "fog of war" and running an incident, people aren't focused on documentation - their focus tends to be restoral.

Fact of the matter is, documentation is boring, so most people skip it. You're right though, it should be better.

Erm, has someone started a blog on #Fosstodon about AI marketing that I don't know about? If so, can someone share the links with me please as Gloria loves them and I want to see what all the fuss is about! 😂😂

@bjoern I don't believe there is. You could always sign up for an account, then log in now and then to check.

Many of the apps available support multiple accounts.

So I started #Fosstodon around 6 months ago. Back then, I found myself looking at my personal timeline and the federated timeline most of the time.

However, this instance is starting to fill up with such interesting people, that 90% of my time is now spent on the Fosstodon local timeline.

Massive thanks to you all, and long may it continue. You bunch of bloody legends.

@fatboy for me, it was the weekend, and there was a big, strange looking yellow ball in the sky. So I went outside. 😁

@ceiphr Ubuntu Mate at the moment, but when I get time, I'm gonna flip to Budgie. There's a lot to be said for a rolling release.

@DelusionalAI at the time writing, I was testing Nextcloud with owncube (3rd party hosting). I'm currently in the process of spinning up nextcloud on a Pi 3+ with SSD.

A dedicated server would be perfect for NC.

@ignitionigel @DelusionalAI I'm still waiting for my SSD to be delivered, so not swift he'd yet. 😕

Will probably write something on the site about it when I do though.

Hello everyone who is new to Mastodon! Make sure you try and find some folks to follow who have been here for a long time. Don't make the mistake of just following folks joining right now or those you know from other places. Because many of these will leave soon, making you think this place is dead when in reality it's buzzing with activity. I've seen it happen too often with new social services and sites.
