Hmm looks like Jekyl is the front runner here. I'll have to do some research in to it.

I'm seriously considering changing my website for a static site that I write from the ground up. However, I don't fancy writing every blog post in html. Is there a halfway house that will allow me to write in markdown and "export" to html?
@deadsuperhero I think they eventually renamed it to Facebook. πππ
@ignitionigel @joseph shhhh I told you that in confidence!! π
@joseph I just sent you a message. Worked fine for me.
@colomar @mike @timapple yeah, I have a Canon laser printer - never been able to get it working.
I used to have a HP that was literally plug and play. Worked perfectly.
@Matter @h4ck3r9 have yiu made sure that your public IP is static? Otherwise your site will go down every time you lease renews.
@RyuKurisu @art zoho are a hosting provider, it isn't self-hosted.
I did self-host a Zimbra server for around 2 years. It was actually really good, it just became a pain maintaining it.
@joseph @mike you don't have to use it as such. It can just be a way of other people verifying that you are actually you, as it shows your various, verified accounts in one place.
So if someone tweets claiming to be me, they can see that the "official" twitter account of mine, is @kevQuirk, as my website is verified on there too.
@art I used zoho for a couple of years. Generally a good service, but I kept getting duplicate contacts via activesync. To the point where my contact list was duplicated by 8 times. I left in the end.
@ashfurrow what anti-spam intervention are you using?
@timapple @mike I think it depends on what they want from the machine. If they just use a browser most of the time, and some document editing, I think you're probably right. But when that layperson wants to install iTunes to sort their music, they're in for a world of pain. π
@cbowdon @mike preaching to the choir. I remember thinking "where the F is my C drive?!"
@mike yep, I think Matt is pretty much spot on with this one. I don't think many Linux users appreciate just how difficult the move over is, especially for non-technical folk.
I remember when I first started using Linux, I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that there were no exe files to just click and install. It felt so alien (and difficult) for me...and I'm a fairly technical guy.
I heard something that really bothered me on a recent podcast. With GDPR stuff happening today, it felt particularly relevant.
If you have a checked-by-default "consent" to collecting user data, THAT IS CALLED AN OPT-OUT, not an opt-in.
@h4ck3r9 great work on this. To me, just getting stuck in is the best way to learn.
Alexa recorded a couple's private conversation and sent it to a random contact.
Amazon said it's "an extremely rare occurrence."
Get this thing out of your home, folks.
