Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay and I'm thinking about two friends I lost. when I was 16 and when I was 34.

Another good reason for the veg* MREs: contractors are currently doing work which makes the kitchen very stressful to be in. I can construct a whole lot of meals in another room with just dry ingredients, jar them up, add hot water later when needed...

@trwnh It would be tomorrow at 15:00 UTC. I just need to set up the page...
Gotta get through my queue...

@fsnk No coincidence... the "Veg* MREs" are really just backpacking meals that you eat when you aren't necessarily backpacking! Shhhhhhh ;)

Oh, I guess I should set up a SocialCG meeting announcement for tomorrow https://www.w3.org/wiki/SocialCG
Honestly I am pretty tired but tomorrow would be a good day to sync up on many of the things we discussed at APConf. My energy level is low. Are people interested? If so, I'll set up the page.

@lain In the OcapPub document I initially put "True Names" but MarkM objected that it was too similar to Vernor Vinge's True Names https://web.archive.org/web/20010209031115/http://progoth.resnet.gatech.edu/truename/truename.htm (the ultimate cyberpunk fediverse story, from 1981 at that!) which the ocap community has taken to refer to as where your online identity gets unmasked and you get beaten with a rubber hose until you reveal your private keys

At least it was more fun to say "forwarding to @lain's soul" in the unconference session
That and the Self-Authenticating Designators (SAD) conversation
The infinite sadness of ActivityPub's soul

@dmitri @karen I mean, DB's experience is a good argument for it, but I think you should have seen just how shocked and full of objection MarkM was. That community is very exhausted from many naming bikesheds.
I feel like both sides make compelling arguments. zcaps are at least not too terrible IMO but... well actually MarkM did say "that's terrible... terrible". I think it would be good to have a conversation to find out why.
But I suspect it'll be a hard one.

I wish fediverse clients had a working petname based contact list type system so I could write down notes about people and give them my own names so I can actually contextually remember who they are
Especially a big problem after APConf, where now I just followed a bunch of people I really cared about the conversations of, and will have a hard time mentally mapping them to their online identities :(

On that note, we had massive turnout of implementors from across the fediverse spectrum, but Mastodon's dev team was missing. I know some people wanted to make it, but couldn't, so I'm not blaming anyone, but we made so much progress and so much connection at APConf that it really struck me how important getting everyone at the table is.

@gargron @emsenn @tmarble A perfect question for the group tomorrow, and I have a suggested response (it involves edge names) https://github.com/cwebber/rebooting-the-web-of-trust-spring2018/blob/petnames/draft-documents/making-dids-invisible-with-petnames.md
But I think you've provided a useful framing for us to address in the paper!
