asking anyone with experience of flashing bios externally, what are the benefits and pitfalls of using either
a Pomona Clip and a Raspberry Pi or
a Pomona Clip with a CHA341?
-
Its been a pretty good weekend.
I purchased two x220 thinkpads one i5 the other i7 and a x200 for less than £105
They were suppose to be 'spares n repairs' but the x200 only needed stripping, cleaning and rebuilding, the i7 was clean but had issues arising from what I think was a bad bios flash and a damaged keyboard
The i5 needs work, I suspect the system board needs replacing as I am getting a 'fan error' even after replacing the fan / cooling.
But all in all.. very happy.
Next up will be getting a Pomona Clip and a Rasp Pi or cha341a....

Just finished sorting a hardware update or 3 to my x220 or should I say recently rescued x220 :)
x220 now i7 flavoured

I use Zoho's (older) free domain hosting option and have not noticed any delay in sending or receiving.
There are still a couple of other options for free hosted domain email like yandex[0] or up to 3 users with inbox.eu[0] however I have not used either service and cant vouch for them personally

Ok, I am thinking of simplifying my network, as im currently running 3 routers each on its own subnet. With about 25 -35 devices connecting daily
Im considering a move to either PFSense or OPNsence to facilitate this
Im working on a budget (£50-£85), so looking at using either
an existing 2nd Gen i5 laptop or PC + smart switch for VLANs or
a thin client with a 4port gigabit Ethernet card.
what other than AES-NI would you consider essential as a consideration and what kind of hardware on a budget would you look at ?

I'll admit to having less than cordial feelings towards mozilla these days, as I feel they eroded and then broke the trust i had with them with their many 'experiments'

@brandon
What did they update/install? another wayward 'experiment' like Looking Glass? a compulsory addon you can no longer remove?, or was it a telemetry improvement?

Currently
Thinkpad x220:Arch with KDE-Plasma
Neoware m100: Debian No-X pure tty framebuffer
Acer ZG5: AspireOS (aros based Amiga like may change to icaros at some point)
HP 8430: windows xp for retro-ish gaming
Lots of other laptops to give a purpose to when motivation allows

@cooper
QuteBrowse: its QTwebengine based - which is what you get if you take apart chromiums blink and wash the parts in bleach before carefully rebuilding leaving out the bad parts and it has great keybindings.
Falkon: QTwebengine based and excellent integration into KDE
w3m: tabbed, graphical web browsing in the TTY framebuffer usable on pretty much any machine

Arch with KDE-Plasma.
Its pretty much the best implementation I have found.

I was just paying for my shopping in my local tesco, at the self serve checkout, two members of saff were having a conversation wondering when one of the checkouts was gong to finish rebooting.
Then from the checkout behind me a familiar sound rang out. ...
The WINDOWS XP start up noise !!! I mean what the actual fruck.

Its worked its way to my single user instances federated time line.
Federation improves over time as you reply, boost and favorite content.
My previous instance hardware failed in February and I am yet to get the same level of federation that had or the followers (folks have to unfollow and then refollow)

I installed Debian Stretch on a Neoware m100 800MHz Eden processor powered laptop format thin client.
This will be a 'no X' install, it has a working framebuffer and w3m displays images very well on non javascript webpages.
It runs cool and the battery looks to be in excellent condition (see pics)
Currently installed are MC, nano, htop, sensors, w3m, lynx, tpp, fbterm (needs configuring) and networking ID controlled my nmcli.
Next up is installing more apps and fbcat for grabbing proper framebuffer screenshots
If you like CLI, TUI or nCurses apps I'd love some suggestions, as long as there are no X dependencies and are available on debian stable (or backports)
