@suetanvil Yeah, periodically I go visit Wirecutter's "best point-and-shoot" page and remember that their *budget* pick is still $400.

Guess I'll just pick up another low-end Elph or something; anything with physical zoom is gonna be better than my fixed-focus phone cam. And 99% of my photography is at home (product shots or cats) so it's not like it would be particularly inconvenient. But my previous P&S disappeared somehow. (Right after we moved, so things were more chaotic than usual.)

Accidentally ordered a phone for the kid that goes on one of Tracfone's differently-branded services and... would I be a bad person for just keeping it as a a tiny tablet? Because I could straight-up use (or rather, ignore) a feature phone for, you know, *phone* stuff, and just use a service-free "phone" tethered to wifi all the time.

Because what I really need is an adequate phone *camera*. Standalone cameras are still more expensive, and the iPad Mini is not really mini enough.

@GoatsLive Most of what has popped up here is "harmless but not very flavorful" every time I look it up. True of the orange chanterelles, apparently, though I guess the neighbors disagree. The black chanterelles are supposedly treasured to go in eggs but I am here to report it apparently takes a lot more of them to add flavor than what I had.

I saw a morel once in my whole life, in an extremely well-trafficked area of a manicured-turfgrass park in Wichita but it was already going to slime. 😔

(I haven't worn earrings in decades so I haven't kept up with Modern Earring Technology. I had one ear that just always seemed to have a low-level infection, and finally gave up on them. That ear still occasionally ends up with a low-level infection. THANKS CLAIRE'S)

@flugennock It's a bay window with a table-height shelf. We put the kitty condo there "temporarily" when migrating birds hit that window twice in a row (they were fine) and she loves it. She hops onto the shelf and then onto the condo (its base is just out of frame, it's only the two cubes).

@GeoffWozniak He was really happy and active after that, though tbh we were not entirely sure if it was because he was cooler or because he had less of a hairball problem.

@GeoffWozniak Heh. I was talking about shaving her *bed*, but yeah: when I was a kid we had a Himalayan who would just lie directly on A/C vents all summer. Had him given a "lion" cut once, and he got out of the carrier and just sat there rippling the skin on his back and switching his (still-long) tail: and then he touched his side with his own tail and leaped straight up in the air because it scared him because NOTHING HAD EVER TOUCHED HIS SKIN [semi-]DIRECTLY BEFORE! 😆

also yes an AMAZING amount of Olivia fur has worked its way through the kitty-hammock fabric to the underside. It's really hard to get off because you have to finish pulling it through. Pretty sure just *shaving* it would be easier at this point.

Today in Nextdoor weirdness: someone just clicked "Thank" on a post of mine from over two years ago, when we lived on the other side of the state, telling neighbors I had taken a stray cat (who looked like she'd been lost in the nearby woods for awhile) to the local shelter/rescue.

Phew. Read-to-littles day, and the senior teacher was out again so it was another stressful day for some of the kids, *and* they got a big shipment of new supplies/toys that needed unpacked, labeled, and put out to play with. One little guy (with some serious anger/impulse issues) was just having a really rough day, and I ended up reading to him between lunch and nap time, and then he fell asleep holding my hand. And then rolled over in his sleep and grabbed on with his other hand. 😍
