We ran all the way out to the beaches and thought weโd take the tram or bus back โ but both were so full they didnโt stop for us, and the street were so packed that we walked all the way back before seeing another bus. Our Swiss intuitions regarding public transport on a beach Sunday have led us astray. Pictures from the old town near the customs by the river. #Photography#Portugal#Porto
@Rovine Yeah. I think the anxiety is a result of powerlessness. Sometimes you have rights, but often you donโt. So you know to put up and shut up and that doesnโt result in pleasant feelings of autonomy and freedom. ๐คจ
I hate handing over 150ml of expensive sunscreen at the airport security check. If anything will result in less flying in the future it will be this nightmare of a security theatre. Iโm trying to convince myself that Iโm giving it away for the climate.
@ajroach42 It's sometimes said that what goes onto the internet stays there forever, but in its current form internet content is very ephemeral. Unless you save it on local storage or put it on archive.org there's a high chance that information will disappear within a few years.
Sure, but most if not all of our primary computing devices have some degree of closed source component. That's a dimension to be minimized, but if it's a deal breaker you can't even buy Olimex.
The net positive of having cheap, youth focused single board computers is big IMO, and if we start uniquely penalizing them when most of our hardware is full of things in the same condition, that's not very good for the community.
I already see folks in your mentions saying that having a closed source component currently owned by a big tech company that Slashdot hates is a deal breaker, and that's probably a bad meme.
there were some things i ddn't knew about raspberry pis:
"Linux runs on that ARM CPU, we know that, but we might be surprised to learn that Linux on this device is only a second class citizen. The GPU cores run a real time operating system called ThreadX. This operating system is closed source and rules the system without the open source Linux Kernel being aware of it."
I've talked before about how telling kids about queerness of whatever flavor is not at all a big deal. That to some adults, these things feel mind blowing and like they're upsetting something about the world they thought was a constant. But for kids, it's just yet another thing they didn't know about. Which is a vast majority of things, for kids. So it's not a big deal to discover one more.
