...or I'll just go over my favourites and delete them in one fell swoop. There's little to gain by deleting them slowly (unlike with tweets).

But on second thought, I may give up on the delete slowly idea, and just kill them all, save the pinned one in one go. I mean, what's the advantage of deleting in smaller steps? My content remains there longer. What for? Why is it useful?

Killing them all it will be.

Interestingly, meta-data tells me I have 5801 tweets, but counting only shows 5792. Where's the missing ones? I suppose I'll find out when I start deleting on the 13th of April.

Still need to figure out where my favourites are, and start deleting those as well.

How to get the IDs of one's tweets from a #Twitter archive, sorted by date, oldest first:

    ใ€Œ(for f in data/js/tweets/*js; do tail -n +2 $f; done) | jq -s '. | flatten | sort_by(.created_at) | .[].id'ใ€

Now I only need a tool that goes over this list, and deletes them over the course of about a year. I might add a bit of randomness too.

The Corporation behind and the Admins of Facebook can see your โ€œPrivate Messages.โ€

The Admins of Mastodon can see your Direct Messages. They arenโ€™t private.

With Mastodon, you can spin up your own instance and be your own Admin.

Ultimately, donโ€™t use any of these tools for actual private messages. Use Signal, Matrix/Riot or another end to end encrypted messaging tool.

This weekend, I'll try to find some time to increase the storage space under one of my servers, so I can decomission another (and to still have enough free space that I don't have to worry I run out if I go away for a week).

Might deploy #PeerTube too, while there.

Hrm, next one after April is July - too close. September 2019 then, perhaps? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Huh. 13th is almost around the corner. I need to set up a small cron job that'll delete my oldest tweet each day from Twitter. Or perhaps the oldest 10... don't want to run the thing for 15 years. Deleting in batches of 10 would still take a year and 7 months.

Perhaps I should time it so it takes 42 weeks... or until the next Friday the 13th?

@bootsy Not sure I agree a 100% (though, for the most part, I do). There are cases where a corporation/brand looking for and replying to people is useful. For example, if I ask a question, with a #BrandName hashtag, because I'm unaware of their presence on the fediverse, them replying I'd consider great, because I was looking for them. It wouldn't be completely "out of the blue", nor undesired. But yes, care must be taken not to become abusive.

    Frustrating.

To those thinking of leaving Mastodon: I ensure you that there are others on mastodon that share your interests. It can be difficult to get started finding your group, but Mastodon has a sense of community that is unmatched by other platforms. We're a collection of people, rather than a collection of icons. We come and go, and each group has an experience all their own. You'll get to know others more deeply than you would on other services, so always be searching for people to interact with.

On people dropping out of Mastodon: You need to keep finding more people to follow in an interest based network since people will be dropping out all the time. Your relatives and friends from school donโ€™t disappear as quickly on Facebook, nor do journalists and news outlets disappear on Twitter, but in the more interesting and interest-based communities, thatโ€™s simply how it is. You need to replenish the pool and keep finding and following more people. Theyโ€™re everywhere.

There's so much more I could improve on my desk at home... So many great ideas I can borrow!

Once I have a work-room of my own, I'll have to invest into improving it further. Though my standing desk, keyboards, and my trackball are already huge improvements over what I had before. A low-profile angled screen for notifications is an idea I'd love to try.

Mind you, for that, I'd need to tweak all notifications to appear on another screen than their source application. May not be trivial...

Thanks to Lenz Grimmer on the #keyboardio IRC channel, I can now scroll with the press of a button and using the ball. Great to validate an idea before building my own device!

This morning, my #Keyboardio Model01 successfully negotiated 100mA power with the host, automatically.

A huge hack at the moment, but this is a big milestone towards having a keyboard that works out of the box with tablets too. This, and the BootKeyboard work done recently should cover pretty much all bases.
