@ghost_bird No one thinks "I'm going to rob that Tesco because it'd be fun", it's usually "because I don't have any money and I'm desperate for something to eat".
Similar for mental health issues. We aren't born wanting to beat people up, but pre-existing and treatable personality disorders combined with the crazy levels of anxiety we are all subjected to nowadays drive some people to do violent things.
Help poor people, and help ill people, and stop sending them to jail to satisfy the press.
@ghost_bird In a lot of people's eyes, restorative justice means revenge.
I don't believe anyone sets out to commit a crime, and most people in jail shouldn't be there.
People often commit crime because of one of two things - mental health issues, or poverty and desperation.
Both of those have treatments and remedies that don't involve "throw the sick and poor into prison". But people want to see revenge, rather than improvements in society for everyone.
They used to do a similar thing on local radio back when there was more money sloshing around - the "Fugitive" or "Renegade".
The mystery person would give clues as to their location and people would go around asking "are you the Juice FM Fugitive?" or "are you the Real Radio Renegade?" I got asked a few times when it was on Juice.
The person who found the Fugitive would get a few hundred pounds as a prize, and the station name would echo around the city as people asked. Great marketing.
I don't usually link to this newspaper because it's a rag, but this is a really nice idea from Morrisons - a quiet hour on Saturday mornings for people who struggle with excessive noise and chaos to do their supermarket shop.
I am on the lookout for a new home on the fediverse! I've had a few nice instance suggestions, but still trying to find a place that feels like home. I would like - A small instance that feels like a community, so the local timeline's not a firehose - No "free speech" bollocks, hate speech = ban - Moderation that's on the case with regard to blocking shitty instances/users - A fairly 'grown up' outlook, generally more interesting/'real' posts rather than memes and shitposts
