@bgcarlisle I would *like* to go to university someday, but in my country it's too expensive and getting more expensive every couple of years. I think the ship has sailed on me doing any more learning. :(
Also, no "sea lions". It's a word I learned earlier, it means those people who argue the toss with you very politely but constantly, like a drone.. drone.. drone of "but can you *back that up*?" whenever you post anything.
I am on the lookout for a new home on the fediverse! I've had a few nice instance suggestions, but still trying to find a place that feels like home. I would like - A small instance that feels like a community, so the local timeline's not a firehose - No "free speech" bollocks, hate speech = ban - Moderation that's on the case with regard to blocking shitty instances/users - A fairly 'grown up' outlook, generally more interesting/'real' posts rather than memes and shitposts
@thornyonmain@ghost_bird Murdoch himself is a fossil. One wonders what will happen when he carks it, whether it'll carry on as before or whether the papers' line will improve somewhat.
All the advert breaks and sponsor credits are Sun this, Sun that, the breakfast show sponsored by the Sun. I used to listen but I simply can't anymore without breaking a boycott.
Luckily we still have an independent radio station but the signal is so weedy it doesn't reach my house or car unless I drive right into the city centre.
Also in today's Ofcom bulletin (these are usually worth a skim, if just for the amusing wriggling broadcasters do when caught red-handed):
Dodgy Alex Salmond's programme on Russian state propaganda outfit RT, sanctioned for making up tweets from "viewers" - they were actually from the production team.
@woozle Challenge it with the bank. Any legitimate merchant would have their name clearly stated on that line. If you bought fuel while driving, it'd have the name of the filling station, for instance.
This looks like someone has used your card details to pay off part of their credit card bill. No legit shop would have a merchant description like this.
@ghost_bird This is exactly how it is for me! I get the odd bit of out-and-out abuse, but most people are perfectly polite but want me to spend my day finding 'evidence' for what I've posted, or just generally argue the toss.
It's like a slow drip.. drip.. drip of "you're wrong" and eventually it gets exhausting.
@ghost_bird I want my posts to be visible because that's how you get to meet people, but I don't want to constantly be bombarded with people arguing the toss. By all means disagree, but the constant drone of "you're an idiot" is getting a bit much.
They are the same people who used to phone Pete Price on local radio back in the 90s and go "haha you're a poof" just because it amused them.
