@Antanicus Why not have a look at Kubuntu or Xubuntu? I'm no fan of GNOME but I'm happy with KDE (on Debian, but the Ubuntu experience will be similar).
@fluttergirly The other option is to use some kind of MiFi device or 4G dongle to connect to the mobile network and bypass your parents' network altogether. I don't know where you live, but such things are relatively inexpensive here.
@Naxjns They are paying the price literally, too! An unhealthy fish and chip meal where I live is Β£3.80 and a McDonald's burger meal is the wrong side of a fiver. And you're less likely to get punched at the fish and chip shop.
@mattbk Not easily, but they are switching away from PayPal as a whole over the next couple of years. They've made a deal with something called Adyen that I've never heard of.
I'm trying to get off eBay and onto my own website for most stuff, but it's a case of the eyeballs still being on eBay. :(
@Naxjns Isn't the sugar tax just for fizzy pop, like Coke, Irn Bru etc?
Living near a certain well-known fast food chain place, I'd like to see a McDonald's tax, if only to pay for clearing up the branded litter.
There's so much amazing food from all over the world in this country these days that I don't get why people go to those fast food chains or buy crap sugary/salty supermarket junk. It's not like it was, even my small area has so much wonderful independent choice.
@Antanicus To be fair, it's mostly down to the fact that radio equipment is inexplicably in the same category as mobile phones, and there are a lot of eBay scams around high-value iPhones and similar.
But that is small consolation when I am selling ATUs and antenna building bits and pieces.
I have over a thousand pounds on hold with PayPal right now for random reasons, mainly that I sell what they class as 'high risk electronics' via eBay. It's mostly ham radio equipment.
Will everyone please look at alternatives to PayPal - I am struggling for money despite a record month for sales.
Oh, for FUCK's sake. More companies getting job applicants to jump through demeaning hoops rather than actually - I don't know, test their competency for the job they'll be doing.
