I see today Mastodon has discovered that if you post things on the internets people can copy them -

@cwebber Yeah. I think what struck is most is the way it can, if I understand correctly, automagically split computation up into suitably large chunks and then shared between nodes. We were doing a lot of RPC stuff, and figuring out how to distribute a constraint solver, and E seems able to do that on its own. -

@cwebber Oh hey, another #E fan. We looked into it at uni for a distributed computing project -

@animeirl Innovative. It combines the math tax with buying overpriced food. A short-sightedness twofer -

Seeing the latest Mastodrama, I'm reminded what I told @eukara in Berlin: Poor poor Eugen. He's led his users to believe they have a say in things when they really don't, but also acquiesces if they scream loud enough. The end result seems to be even more screaming, instead of being able to have a constructive conversation about the project. I'm fearing he'll burn himself out at this rate -

@fabianhjr Just read about this. Reddit's admins are seriously defending slavers now? I feel like I should be shocked, but that site has been steadily going downhill for years -

Are you not feeling motivated to go outside for a healthy walk? How about downloading the application StreetComplete from @fdroidorg and start helping out OpenStreetMap by adding missing data about the places around you!
I started today and it made my daily walks a lot more fun! It also motivates me to walk even more and visit new places that I wouldn't visit otherwise. :)

YOU: so the A in RAID stands for "Array"?
US: Yes.
YOU: doesn't that mean saying "RAID array" is redundant?
US: Of course. That's what the R is for. -

@anna You don't need to register to IRC either, and for XMPP you could certainly write a server that creates temporary users requiring nothing but username, via a nice Web UI. XMPP supports media attachments, so sillyness like stickers is just a matter of client stuff. Then there's Jingle for audio/video calls. OMEMO is a huge wart though, protocolwise.
As @mmn not-so-diplomatically points out, these objections are really about client UX, not XMPP itself. So really, the solution is to apply perspiration to one or two of the more popular clients, to bring them up to user expectations..! -

@truck Yeah, I was linked to it on IRC a while back. I've been too busy with space things to fiddle with it, even if I did have some ideas. I've also noticed SvOlli doesn't seem to be on IRC any more.. -

@thomasfuchs @celesteh You're both forgetting Konrad Zuse's machines, which came before the ENIAC and the Colossus. But credit for inventing computing perhaps more belongs to Leibniz, Boole, Hilbert, Ackermann and Shannon
