@natecull @TrollDecker it's fascinating how one piece can sound 50+ different ways depending on the rendering hardware or soundfont

and while it's definitely a matter of taste and nostalgia, imo the more expensive classic MIDI hardware (which i didn't have access to back then) doesn't always render a more enjoyable rendition

just recently i learned doom has always had a major bug in its gravis ultrasound support which mismaps some instruments to shitty effect. chocolate doom, of course, faithfully recreates that, so initially i went to github saying, "i think something is wrong here, help?" before they told me why flutes were replacing drums in s2 map01
