@Sir_Boops@shel yeah but ARIN aren't giving you v4 addresses at this point, are they? so all you can do is buy them off somebody else which is going to cost
@shel oh yeah uh I completely forgot that you also need some public ip address space, which you can buy (v4 space, probably you cannot afford, v6, maybe you can)
@shel There was a recent blog post by some person about How To Become An ISP Just Because that goes through all of the steps: http://blog.thelifeofkenneth.com/2017/11/creating-autonomous-system-for-fun-and.html that is, of course, at a data center, where it isn't so hard to find a few people who'll peer with you for funsies. Getting The Internet to actual subscribers requires that you have some kind of WAN in place between you and them (or rent somebody WAN).
@shel all you really need to be an ISP is the ability to link directly with other autonomous systems (usually at least two), and the hardware to make that happen. Commercial ISP that resells internet, that plus probably whatever it takes to be a business and maybe also some regulatory stuff who knows.
the moment an NLP system independently learns to correctly interpret the phrase "just slurp the .wav off youtube homie" is the exact moment we finally achieve strong AI
@moz (okay also not my OWN python implementation but the program has a repl that can accept python code and that is allowed to write to the global namespace, so you can really modify pretty much everything)
@sixohsix I'm just a PhD student, but telling off crap conferences would probably be just fine. Just if I actually quoted money I'd probably have to clear it with uni legal somehow and That's A Bother.
@tom most of these mails really are literally "please be a part of our program committee" which, sure, I'll do, and I'll probably even do a decent enough job (I mean, if it's a decent conference, I'm totally down in any case!).
the real reason why I won't is that it's too close to my actual work and while we can in theory probably take consulting work on the side I really don't want to bother finding out how to do that properly just to Own the Libs
