Let me know if you have questions, and also let me know if there's a coding language or syntax for which it might be helpful to make Emacs aware of. There may be a package that you can install to help you want to use Emacs (nxml-mode was one of the things that got me addicted to Emacs, because at the time I was doing nothing but XML at work).

@switchingsocial @inkscape Inkscape's so good at this point, I honestly think that Adobe Illustrator is an alternative to Inkscape. I know several professional logo designers and artists who use Inkscape because it's so much better than Illustrator, which I think must have inherited a lot of weird defaults from bizarro-world apps like Macromedia Freehand and Flash.

@cosullivan I had to learn how to watermark a PDF for work. It wasn't painful, thanks to Inkscape, pdftk, and gs.

@Jason_Dodd Agreed. I understand the desire, sometimes, to offer alternatives "out of the box" methods, but it makes no sense when constraints or requirements have *clearly* been stated.

No, these are just buildscripts. It's trivial to edit the version number and install the latest application. I'm running the latest kdenlive,qtractor,audacity,gimp,inkscape,and scribes.

I've been using Slackware for multimedia production for 6 or 7 years now, and while there's upfront investment to build many of the applications you intend to use, I can honestly say that the stability and reliability is second to none.

Basically: be your own package maintainer, managing your mission-critical apps with build scripts, and apply only security updates during the life span of your OS release.

#GIMP is a free open source alternative to Photoshop. It's probably the leading free graphics software, with new releases for over 22 years so far 👍

It's intended for photographers, illustrators, designers etc and lets you manipulate photos and create graphics.
