    Look Windows 1.0 to Me are properly called DOS/Windows because they relied on the work of DOS to provide the basic operating system routines, first compilers, toolchains, and driver infrastructure.

    To call it just "Windows" doesn't do justice to DOS and its important contributions to Windows that can still be felt today in cmd.exe (NT based Windows should not be called DOS/Windows, however, it's of a different lineage and does not require DOS).

    The most evil shit Python libraries can possibly do:

    * Make their exceptions inherit from BaseException
    * Raise error strings in Python 2 code for literally no reason, or anything that doesn't inherit from Exception tbh
    * Change environmental variables
    * exit(0) without being told
    * Not have a base exception class for library exceptions
    * Do weird shit to the traceback
    * Not follow PEP8 naming conventions
    * Encourage from ... import *
    * Have one giant namespace when it's like 50k LOC

    @cwebber My official position is that the W3C has done the wrong thing. I worry deeply about the future of the open web, and the future of standards. The motivations of the W3C are unclear here, but appear to be financial. If financial considerations trump what is morally right, then the standard is not open to what is technologically best for all parties; rather, it is open to who has the deepest pockets.

    I don't know what to tell Communists but making more generation capacity is labour-intensive and we still have technical hurdles to overcome for batteries to surpass the energy density of hydrocarbons.

    Though, if we made a battery even 1/4 as energy dense as gasoline, the increased efficiency of the electric motor would make it equal in terms of practicality.

    If we scaled this up to the entire US, and provided all our water from the ocean via desalination via evaporation (excluding recondensing energy costs, so this is an underestimate)

    For the people alone, it would be 30.24PJ.

    Our total generating capacity is about 91PJ give or take a few trillion joules.

    Yeah.
