@FssOfDeath Haha, very true (although the weirdly expensive micro-transactions seem counter to that...if someone heavily invests in those transactions, they'll probably stick to the mobile ecosystem).

I know I'm contemplating a Switch and just trying to figure out if I'd prefer the full system or the Lite.

@FssOfDeath I suppose I'm just annoyed that I can *easily* think of a few tweaks that would have made for a full-fledge Mario Kart experience. Instead, we get something close but not quite complete. 🤷

@FssOfDeath You know, I think you're right. I'm not a fan of the incredibly aggressive and expensive micro-transaction approach (I'd expected it to be like Super Mario Run and was totally prepared to pay for the full game, but not this $4.99/month gold pass nonsense), but the game play itself is OK.

It could be better. I wish it was better. But it's not the complete disaster I implied in my earlier toot.

@FssOfDeath It seems to be harder to successfully get a drift boost with gyro steering, but the overall experience is better and feels a little closer to a proper Mario Kart game. Not perfect, but close.

I have prefered if they designed to play in landscape mode and you could still go off-track like a normal Mario Kart game.

Landscape mode, gyro steering, tap/swipe on the right to use items, tap the left to hop and get into drift mode. Had they done that it'd be close to perfect

And, yes, I recognize the irony of saying I'd most like to "have a beer" with a practicing Sikh who also saw what alcoholism did to his father (i.e., the man doesn't drink). But the figure of speech tends not to be "who I'd rather have tea with," even though it maybe should be.

I know "they're just like me; I'd like to have a beer with them" is a bad test for who to vote for, but it struck me recently that, among the main (anglo) federal leaders, Jagmeet Singh is the one who sounds most like a "normal" Canadian when he's speaking. He's frequently othered, as a PoC, practicing Sikh. But when he speaks he sounds more ordinary and genuine that Trudeau or Sheer, IMO.

Elizabeth May is pretty "normal" sounding, too.

@cognish Ha. I think most drop downs only go back to 1900 which, realistically, is further than necessary. I don't think there are any 11 9-year-olds.

I just downloaded a 10-recipe sample from a vegan cookbook that is aimed at flexitarians and such, rather than dedicated vegans. These are SUPER SIMPLE recipes. They mostly look good, but the first one is maybe TOO simple. It's called Spinach Pesto and one of the ingredients it calls for is...pesto. Uhhhhhhhhh...................

I learned there's a "gyro steering" mode hidden under the settings menu. Technically, it's not hidden, but it's not actively mentioned in the tutorial so I didn't think to look for it. The game is less aggressively shitty with gyro steering + manual drifted used together. The auto steering is pretty aggressive, so I might try turning that off...unfortunately, it is helpful to have on because the vertical view means it's hard to see what's coming up around corners and I crash lots.

@jacethechicken This is why every conservative comedian is basically just an asshole. They punch down and they're all trying to imitate Andrew Dice Clay, the only successful conservative "comedian" ever. Clay was also just a giant asshole, but somehow he became successful as a result.

@adasauce Having said that, a lot of small businesses are terrible and more exploitative of their employees than large, faceless companies (lower wages, few or no benefits, etc.). Street Fight Radio has a whole thing about small business tyrants that rings painfully true of every small business I've worked at.
