Netflix advertising is getting aggressive. Instead the usual "we have a new show/movie we think you'd like" email, I just got one telling me, "Don't forget to finish Show X."
Uh...OK? Why so aggressive about that one particular show, Netflix?

Why hasn't this guy replied to my email yet?
Oh...because it's been sitting in my drafts. I forgot to actually click "send."
Small mug are best for coffee.

Indeed, this has been my experience. I have a gigantic Starbucks mug at home that I rarely use because my coffee is lukewarm, at best, long before I finish it. The smallish size of classic diner mugs, or vintage Pyrex coffee cups are just about perfect.
Equally important, I think, is the circumference of the opening. The wider the mouth of a cup, the quicker it'll cool off.
Connectivity is going to be an increasing problem for pure libre distros in the future. Replicant tops out at 3G still, as carriers sunset 2G and are launching 5G.
The linux kernel tops out at 802.11n without proprietary binary blobs. Which is now two generations behind current.
@keithzg Just to add some extra hilarity to this conversation...I received an Air Canada promo email just moments ago...9.5 days left to go, I guess.
@keithzg So the language Air Canada is using is probably just a cover-your-ass thing, except for the fact that you're still receiving the emails several days later...what system, or lack thereof, are they using to manage their outgoing emails?!
Inbox Zero, kinda...
I have successfully managed all unread email in my inbox. I have no unread email in my inbox (there are a few unread emails in various folders, but whatever).
I have dozens -- possibly hundreds -- of *read* emails in my inbox, but at least all of the unread ones are dealt with. Now to get back to real work, I guess...
@keithzg Right?! I just unsubscribed from Air Canada spam and saw that. Not only does that violate the CASL law (I think), it's just completely ridiculous for something that *should* be automatic and essentially instantaneous.
@seb I've got it done to 273 now! Of course, these are just the unread emails (though I've also been mass deleting various newsletter emails, whether read or unread). At some point, I'll have to go through and organize/cull the ones that have been marked as read but are still sitting in my inbox.
Race is a nonsensical concept at the best of times. The closer you look at it, the less sense it makes. Take the views of race in North America, for instance.
Like... Spanish people are considered POC but Italian people aren't. Spanish people are "Hispanic" which also includes some people from across the entire continent of South America, I guess? Chinese people are "Asian" but Indian people aren't. Iran is in Western Asia, but Iranians aren't "Asian" either. They're Middle Eastern, like Egyptians, even though Egypt is in Africa. "African" is used synonymously with Black. Zulu, Shona, and Igbo are all just "African". And "Mixed" can mean virtually anything in any combination.
I really look forward to the day when everyone can just agree that the whole concept of race is outdated imperialist garbage which serves no purpose in our society.
@InvaderXan I think it's even more fucked and complicated than that (especially when talking about "whiteness," because I think a lot of people would say Spanish people are white, but "hispanic" people from Central and South America are not). Of course, it's all a matter of political motivations of the day, because Italians weren't considered "white" until relatively recently.
You may have been told that it is, but it is not. "White" is not an ethnicity.
White is a social construct. Our notion of "white people" is nothing more than an outdated concept, created for the purposes of oppression and division. The entire idea of race is no different, and stems from imperialism. It has no valid scientific basis whatsoever. It's divided humanity for centuries, and still does.
There are 87 distinct European ethnicities, like Basque, Faroese, Croat, and Dane. There is no single group called "white".
But you know what kind of people use terms like "ethnically white"? Nazis.
Finally getting around to cleaning up my email, unsubscribing from stuff (much of which I don't ever remember actually signing up for).
Down from almost 1,200 unread emails to exactly 750 after about 15-20 minutes of focused effort.
@jer_ Back an hour = 11 a.m.
Up an hour = 9 a.m.
the reason that your ethnicity isn't "white" is that, for example, if we take the idea that Jews are white, we're completely ignoring the fact that there are in fact many Jews who aren't: mixed-race Ashkenazi Jews, Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews, non-white converts, and many, many others. they're all Jews, but they're not all white: it's a Venn diagram, not a circle.
race and ethnicity are more or less separate; and race is also more or less a tool for the violent destruction of ethnic cultures and the assimilation of them into an unjust, homogenized racial hierarchy.

I'm curious about Dwarf Fortress, but also know that I definitely don't have time for a game that requires a 248-page "getting started" manual (along with the massive wiki and hours of YouTube tutorials).
@keithzg @freakazoid It never occurred to me that third-party antivirus programs could be an effective entry point for malware, but that makes a lot of sense!
@keithzg @bgcarlisle BRB, signing up for fediverse.keithzg.ca so I can demand more robust policies.
@freakazoid My understanding is, no, Microsoft's own security suite, combined with some common sense about recognizing suspicious/untrustworthy sources, is good enough and have been for a number of years.
