OK, #pinebookpro folks, my audio just stopped working for no obvious reason. I'm assuming it's not a hardware issue, since it was running previously.
None of the suggestions I've found on the wiki or forum so far have worked. Do I really need to open the thing up?

I'm going to sleep now, but await your responses in the morning.

@keithzg It took me way too long to realize I had to sudo that command to make it work. #linuxisfun (but actually, it is; I feel like I'm actually making my computer work instead of just having shit magically happen, even though CL is basically a series of incantations).

@keithzg Personally, I'm happy to see the command for making the clock retain the proper time. Mine resets itself after every reboot or power-down and I haven't had the time to look into a fix yet. Hopefully, what's on that blog post will do the trick.

#Pinebookpro reviewed (not by me) after 24-hours hands-on: https://haydenjames.io/pinebook-pro-my-first-impressions-and-setup-tips/
This has a few handy tips for tweaks and adjustments that I will probably make to my own PBP, so it's good read for that reason.

@keithzg Our best speakers are from my old stereo system. They've been relegated to the basement and are rarely used, because my wife finds them too big and ugly to have in the livingroom. Instead, we've got a little Bose Wave system which I think sounds like crap but is generally good enough for our purposes. Plus, it was free so I can't complain too much.

@keithzg We thought about a projector option, but most of the "solutions" would have been impractical in our space and we'd still have needed a solution for audio, since the built-in speakers in most projectors suck (plus it'd be weird to have the sound coming from behind our heads).

@VTuber_Lily This just reminded me that Birdo is canonically trans. In the 80s, the Mario 2 booklet said she was "a he who think he's a she" or something awful, but ever since then she has just been referred to as a "she."
Probably, this was just Nintendo realizing the original "joke" was not funny and pretty out of place in a children's game, but I choose to see it as a parent coming to terms with their trans child: first awkward and in denial, then accepting and loving.

@Canageek Yeah, 2-factor is great...if you have access to your backup codes when necessary. I actually had to ask the admin of what used to be my main instance to turn off 2FA for me because I lost the back up codes. Luckily, it's a small instance so we had enough of a relationship that they could easily confirm I was really me and they reset it for me. Most of the time, that wouldn't be a realistic option.

In the end, this will all be for the best. We'll be better able to accommodate family dinners AND we'll be better able to have family movie nights, which we can't comfortably do in our current setup even with only three people in the family (to say nothing of future children and/or guests).
Ah, the "joys" of trying to fit modern electronics into a house that was built before such things were even fathomable to most people.

I'm actually not upset about that, because the company we're working with has come up with a solution that is far simpler and more elegant than what I'd have done (actually, I was probably just going to use a corner TV stand, but my wife feels like we need the floor space, so having the TV mounted and cables run through the wall is better).
Of course, we're probably buying new furniture to accommodate the re-purposing of the two rooms in questions, which I'm less keen on.

What started out as "we should mount the TV on the wall and re-arrange the furniture so we have a proper dining room again, instead of two living rooms and an eat-in kitchen that is too small for more than about 4-5 people (so having dinner guests is always a bit impractical unless it's warm enough to eat on the patio)" has turned into "yes, but also we're getting a new TV and a fancy soundbar and paying someone to install it all correctly so we don't fuck up our 100-year-old walls too badly."

@freakazoid That's very true. I almost never use man pages. I just plug it into my search engine (especially if I know *what* I want to do but don't know *how*; referencing man pages doesn't help if you don't even know what command(s)/package(s) you should be using).

TLDR man pages, a simplified, entry-level alternative to official man pages.
This is a very cool project that will hopefully make Linux more accessible. For more advanced commands, you'll likely need the regular man page, but these TLDR version should serve as a good entry point to noobs like me. :)

Speaking of not watching ads, I was talking with my bowling team and we all said that most of the TV ads we tend to see in a given week are on the TVs at the bowling alley, and they're always without sound so they seem extra weird (since, often, we've never heard the audio and without that piece they make absolutely no sense).

Need to get me a 6ft or longer USB-C cord to replace this comically shortly #pinebookpro charging cable. Luckily, the battery life is exceptional so I don't need to plug in while I'm working, but the fact that I can't charge it on my desk is absurd.
