thinking about writing a #cycling training app, but not sure how exactly it fits into any of these. It could maybe fit in learning a new language, but if it's like "zero to app" in 3 months or something, I don't know how useful it will be. I mean, I have other stuff to do, but largely right now I am being paid to learn #Java (and Java tooling).

Interestingly, 12 weeks is what this bootcamp uses: https://www.thesoftwareguild.com/coding-bootcamps/java-training/

I don't know what you do, but triage is a basic ER term, it's not something people rolled out for the pandemic.

I like Bernie, but you don't need to dig too deep to know Sverige is no paradise. I say this as someone with Tre Kronor tattooed on my arm.

I'm not aware of any place that is a paradise.

The triage of the old (and anyone unlikely to survive) is an obvious choice at some point. I am not aware that Sweden was in a place where they had run out of ventilators though. It probably did make sense at some point in Spain though from what I understand about the virus there.

"Using Vocaloids to sing the words I cannot"

In reality, I assume this person is just not a good singer, but...

reading the description, it sounds like there are all sorts of racial slurs being sung, but it's cool because it's Vocaloid. No words on this version anyway: https://circus-p.bandcamp.com/album/spectrum-instrumentals

three tracks are DevOps, Language and Runtime, and Architecture

hmm, I could probably do a DevOps talk on communication and using a fediverse tool, but I feel like the things you would use this for are largely taken by things like slack.

Perhaps there's something about learning to be discussed. I'm up for suggestions!

hmm. I wonder if a talk on the fediverse will fit any of the tracks in our conference.

if you look at the output of timezonectl you will see the different fields. mysql is just picking up the wrong field.

the problem is the definition of a mask.

the masks I wear definitely, 100%, DO NOT WORK in an aerosolized environment.

Amazon is different for so many reasons.

    Chief among them:

the mask thing I think is about nuance. ordinary masks are not useful in an aerosolized environment, so it's important that certain types of physicians (anesthesiologists, for example), have "real masks"

The inability to convey that nuance though is of course concerning.

mariadb tries to pull the info from CentOS. I think this is a timezonectl issue, but not sure.

If mariadb pulled 'America/Chicago' instead of CDT, then it would work fine.

If you live in #Australia or east #Asia (or thereabouts timezone-wise) and would be interested in a weekly #music chat. I have a friend in Japan that would like to join the chat I host, but it is 2am for him.

I guess if you are anywhere else and you want to show up at noon US Central on Sunday, hit me up and I will get you the Jitsi info.

I stumped (for now) our #Wildfly expert on this one:

"java.sql.SQLException: The server time zone value 'CDT' is unrecognized or represents more than one time zone. You must configure either the server or JDBC driver (via the serverTimezone configuration property) to use a more specifc time zone value if you want to utilize time zone support."

oh, this is the one that starts at night. Nah, not doing that.

The start of this is pretty close to me. idk, maybe 8km away? I've never done anything longer than 100 miles, but I have been on a bike for the amount of time this would take. I rode a 100k in a snowstorm once. It was not a fast ride.

I'm planning right now to right 224km that Saturday and Sunday so I would be getting most of that on the Saturday if I was doing it....but as I said, I'm not, because I don't like riding at night.
