@welshgeekboy @Antanicus Yep, Lineage comes with AOSP (the open source bits). So, unless you install them, no proprietary/surveillance-based Google crap (that’s all in Google Play Services & their apps).

Key criteria: who owns and controls it?

It’s “smart” tech so who’s getter smarter about whom? If it’s decentralised – the Ai, data gathering, etc., is happening on our devices and is accessible only to us – then we (individuals) are getting smarter about ourselves. That’s great. Compatible with democracy.

In surveillance capitalism, corporations get smarter about us. That’s feudal.

@kaniini @lain @pea @gcupc Very interesting in hearing your thoughts. I find ActivityPub hugely over-engineered. We should be treating federation like TCP/IP - as light/unopinionated as possible. Once we have a channel of communication, the semantics should be implemented at the message level, not the protocol level. We should be keeping the protocol as simple as possible.

@robert @privacylab On Linux (as of last week, my primary dev machine), I use (and love) Gnome Web. On macOS/iOS, I use Safari.

@privacylab @KeaW @mozilla Purism are solid; they're doing things for the right reasons. So I'm not surprised they aren't taking stock surveillance-ridden Firefox by surveillance capitalist Mozilla but customising it to make it private by default. CC @todd

@douginamug Yes. In some ways it is more elegant and simpler than macOS. It is definitely less corporate. We have lots to do but it can all be done :)
