I specifically bought a Philips Hue smart light system for my apartment in order to make it seamlessly adjust its brightness and color temperature according to the calculated altitude of the sun in my location. Surprisingly, the included software didn't support this obvious feature.

I just spent the whole night coding a node.js service that adjusts the lights for me. I'm not done tweaking it yet, but it's already way closer to my specific needs than a shrink-wrapped solution would be.

Philips Hue lights are only moderately useful until you start writing some code to control them.

@mangeurdenuage I only use GIMP in emergencies. My point wasn't that I like GIMP. My point was that it's barely adequate and will work if Photoshop isn't available.

I don't have an Adobe Creative Cloud license through work anymore, and I'm not terribly keen on paying $75/mo to Adobe for their application suite. Unfortunately, their apps are often the best ones out there. I have installed Raw Therapee twice now, but I just can't get my photos to look as good as they do in Adobe Lightroom. I have also installed GIMP several times, but it just makes me miss Photoshop.

Ooh, they're opening ODEON, an IMAX theatre, in Oslo on March 22. It's the only IMAX theatre in the country, in fact... The first IMAX movie to be shown will be Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Tickets are apparently 320 kr / $41 / €33. Worth it?

Heavily upvoted meme on Reddit. People are confused. There is no gap there. If you were born before the early 80s, you're Generation X. If you were born in the mid 90s or early 00s, you're iGeneration / Generation Z. If you were born in between those, you're Millennial / Generation Y. Sorry folks, but you can't escape a label. 😛

@B4x4 It was a small and hot room with a whole lot of lights in it, plus a camera. If you've had your picture taken by a photographer, it was roughly like that, except the lights are on all the time, and some guy has to say his line 14 times before he gets it right.

Of course, after filming for the customer for 3X as long as planned, the guy I've been talking to all along stopped emailing me, and a different guy within the same company took over. He wasn't there for the filming and hasn't seen all the texts that the other guy sent, and he doesn't get it.

I hope he gets it when he sees the quality of the video clips I just sent him. I have the footage they want, so that should give me some leverage, at least.

The filming went well. The studio was tiny and hot and our talent kept bolting out the door to cool himself off, but we got the shots we needed. My biggest concern right now is that we shot 3X more material than expected and I grossly undershot the price. Reason? The customer didn't tell me how much would be in the video ahead of time. They thought they could Improvise it. It took 9 hours to shoot. I said ~$2000 and it should cost $4500 or so. This will get a bit hairy...
