Mark Shane Hayden (msh@coales.co)'s status on Monday, 04-Nov-2019 09:49:50 EST Mark Shane Hayden @kaniini Car insurance providers in Canada typically exclude Speedy Glass as well due to the checkered quality record, especially since they usually mis-calibrate the ADAS lane-assist cameras. Perhaps that is why they didn't fold the other regional brands in when they were taken over in this country...wanted to preserve their rep.
Best is to use an independent shop that has been in business for a long time, or if you have the money the dealer or a dealer-recommended shop.
-
Mark Shane Hayden (msh@coales.co)'s status on Monday, 04-Nov-2019 09:18:23 EST Mark Shane Hayden @kaniini that's even bad for them! The shop you use wasn't even meeting the low franchise standards!
I've not heard of them using *actual* counterfeit, unlaminated glass before, but the bad adhesive, shoddy workmanship and use of non OEM glass on all but the newest vehicles is common.

Mark Shane Hayden (msh@coales.co)'s status on Monday, 04-Nov-2019 09:10:21 EST Mark Shane Hayden @kaniini that goes for all the Belron glass and body chains actually.
Belron goes by many names all over the world:
Safelite in US,
Autoglass in UK,
Apple, Duro, LeBeau and Speedy in Canada,
Carglass in Europe and S. America...They all usually cost less than the dealerships but more than local shops, and they use maybe not outright "counterfeit" products but at least the same inferior Belron imitations.
"$STORE_BRAND repair, $STORE_BRAND replace!"
Badly.

Mark Shane Hayden (msh@coales.co)'s status on Saturday, 02-Nov-2019 00:44:55 EDT Mark Shane Hayden @ink_slinger @keithzg I've been running this place for 2.5 years and I'm still mystified as to how my federated timeline "coalesced" out of the ether, without relays, especially during the early time I was the sole user (active or otherwise).
I think the fediverse would be even better if every instance was #under1000 or #under100 because that makes content moderation so much easier and less emotionally draining.

Well, except maybe Wotan. Put that's probably for the better.

Mark Shane Hayden (msh@coales.co)'s status on Friday, 01-Nov-2019 09:29:55 EDT Mark Shane Hayden @clacke @ryen @thegibson the obsession over democracy theatre in the US most probably has its roots in the revolution, when the colonies had to fight for independence in defence of their concerns (taxation without representation etc).
I guess sometimes when democracy was fought for like that it can become an obsession and devolve into such a place over time.

Mark Shane Hayden (msh@coales.co)'s status on Friday, 01-Nov-2019 09:09:36 EDT Mark Shane Hayden @clacke @ryen @thegibson elections in the US are "democracy theatre", just like the "security theatre" when one goes to the airport to board a flight.
It is a performance...a ritual that they go through to make the citizens feel their voice is being heard because the effort was made, when in truth only about 20% of the elections have a meaningful effect on how the government is actually run.
