OK who forget to tell them @doctorow writes speculative fiction not instruction manuals?
I see that bird a comin',
A little chirpin' wren.
I ain't seen the sunshine
Since...I dunno when...
@nocebo ooh that looks ESXy :bloblewd: π
@mrbill0 very nostalgic! My first 386 computer had a FULL HEIGHT 5.25" MFM/RLL hard drive in it. With an RLL controller it held 60MB which seemed like limitless capacity! (with a normal MFM controller I think it was 40MB).
It looked and sounded big and powerful and chunky and had a big orange power switch on the side...but this beast looks even bigger!
Seems like it took 10+ seconds for the that big Micropolis drive to spin up, and when it shut down the heads parked with a satisfying clunk.
@kaniini I hadn't even heard of @yang until this week (I'm not American so I'm not *that* engaged in the election cycle) so I don't know what to think of him. But Hillary's strategy of calling that segment of voters a "basket of deplorables" didn't work out so π€·βοΈ π
@kaniini especially given what instance @yang chose and that he refers to the #fediverse / #ActivityPub as "the #mastodon / #gab network" π
@Aerdan yeah it's a tough sell. The problem in the US is that voter participation has already gotten quite low and the government has long taken that as apathy and thus tacit approval of the status quo, so a "don't vote" campaign would be a tough sell to (and might even be seen as "un-patriotic" by the establishment).
Americans have my sympathies on this. Your "system" makes it very difficult to affect change.
...spoiled ballots are "votes of disapproval" demonstrating actual purpose cannot just apathy, and I think if Americans faced a choice between eating one of two shit sandwiches in 2020 (and no 3rd party candidate was remotely credible) an organised campaign that resulted in millions of spoiled ballots would send a pretty strong message of disapproval in the system in general.
@Aerdan Biden came across to me as the "blue Dan Quayle" or of I was feeling charitable the "blue George W". That is, someone without overtly nefarious intentions but a dopey enough buffoon that can be a puppet for lobbyists and other unaccountable forces.
I would really encourage everyone to vote though. Not voting in an established democracy can be seen as complicity as well. Spoiling your ballot intentionally is a better option I think...
@seb_ly my last JLCPCB order went through Cincinnati too but that at least made some sense as it is kind of on the way to Calgary.
What was more puzzling was being invoiced by a Chinese company in USD then having the payment for it on my credit card come from France in EUR π€¨
Good service and resulting product though.
Mew!
Friends don't let friends use AMP.
AMP is toxic for the internet.
how to actually have an ultra fast mobile experience:
-> limited use of javascript
-> limited use of heavy css effects
-> limited off-server requests
Hotel cat-ifornia :blobcat:
You can check out any time but you can never leave!
I think the English say "Ale" actually
@kaniini showing kids that video would've been orders of magnitude more effective than that old "say no to drugs" campaign they showed in arcade games back in the 1980s.
I was uncertain about getting the librem 5 from the start because of the slightly higher price point and the (expected and understandable) delays. When the pinephone project was revealed with more entry level specs and price point I was encouraged.
Ultimately I want to cobble together my own chunky mobile projects with some of the really small COM boards that are showing up out there the way I cobbled together PCs in the good old days.
Over-driven #dadjoke
Yeah this is pretty much Twitter minus the advertising so it makes sense.
