@supercowpowers@pkubaj You can check this comparison https://nextcloud.com/compare/ if you are interested. Also if you have a look at the feature list you will find stuff which is either not available at all at ownCloud or only as part of the proprietary version.
@stjohn I don't think it is necessarily a problem of the subscription model. Thanks to the Internet I have access to a unlimited number of publications national and international. I love to visit them from time to time and read interesting articles. But I can't buy a subscription from all of them, so I'm happy to pay by seeing some advertisement. Having freely available information is important, but it need to be financed, non-tracking and non-obstructive ads are a valid option.
@stjohn Personally I think ads are fine if they don't contain any tracking code and if they are non obtrusive. I can't buy a subscription for every news site I visit. So I consider it a fair deal to "pay" by seeing some advertisement, as long as they meet the criteria mentioned above.
These days I tried to switch from uBlock to Privacy Badger because I like the idea not to block advertisement in general but only the harmful stuff. But now it happens quite often that websites detect Privacy Badger and show a pop-up every few seconds. So I'm back from blocking some advertisement to blocking all advertisement. Don't think it is better, but it seems like this is what publishers prefer these days. #adblocker#Web#privacy
@Gargron@caesarologia I think it depends in which direction you want to integrate. I think for most people it would be interesting to forward their toot's via #buffer to #facebook, #twitter, #g+, #linkedin,... This should be possible by using the Buffer API. #Friendica does this as well and it works quite nice. I would love to see a similar integration for Mastodon
#Jamaika
A report made by Quartz has brought to light the fact that Google collects Android users’ locations even when location services and GPS are disabled, even with the SIM out of the phone and factory-reseted.
This only shows the need for a truly open option when it comes to mobile systems that respect your privacy, like the Librem 5 project from @Purism supported by @matrix, @gnome, @kde, @nextcloud and @monero
@junglestrike@vinzv@phildini@bob at this point I would even be happy to ignore the "average user" for now, if all the people and organisations who know the importance of free and decentralised systems would finally start using them instead of complaining on Twitter & Co that they are not perfect.
People wrote already many good things about Firefox 57 for the desktop. Today I updated Firefox for Android and I have to say that the progress there is at least as impressive as on the Desktop side! I use Firefox on Android for years, but this is by far the best version. For the first time Firefox's look & feel is like a real mobile browser and not like something ported from the desktop to the mobile world. #Firefox#Android#mobile
I was just pointed to the paradox of tolerance: "Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance I see some similarity to the discussion of protecting vs non-protecting #FreeSoftware licenses. #OpenSource#copyleft#philosophy
