The first episode of the year, studio d'essai 113, is finally available to stream (and download, which really should just be a synonym, but shhh).
We kick off the year #12018 with music from seven different countries, spanning diverse genres including #experimental #folk, #noise, #house, #ambient and #IDM. Quite a bit of #CCMusic in there too. Enjoy! :)

Finally using the @nextcloud 's News app (i.e. RSS tool) as I should: scrolling through all the articles from my aggregated subscriptions, in chronological order – and it is such an enjoyable way to get up to date with what really matters to me. #RSS is still very much alive. Thanks Aaron et al.

A note on the passing of Tony Baldwin. Before 2016 the fediverse was a small world of familiar faces, and Tony was one of those. Tony was characteristic of the pioneers of federated social networks in that he was multi-talented. In addition to hacking on miscellaneous social network stuff he was a father, runner, painter, photographer, multilingual translator and anarchist. Like a lot of us he was also a precariat, living on uncertain income in a hostile world and struggling with all of the usual things, and some not so usual ones.

One thing I should point out which he would probably find funny. I never much liked his Shakespearean insult bot. It was amusing at first, but the joke soon got irritating.

One of Tony's PHP scripts lives on in an adapted form in the Freedombone project. It's purpose is to clear out old posts so that the database size doesn't grow indefinitely. When you're running on small ARM boards without much storage, and want to keep the performance reasonable, this is quite a good thing to have.

it still blows my mind that there are people all around the world sitting at some sort of device and writing their thoughts into the ether and by sheer "magic" i can see them. there are so many people out there, all of them doing such different things, and with lives just as rich as my own. and somehow you're all excellent.

maybe some of you will read this and be like oh yeah that 0x3f is a person too somewhere, and right this is what they said

@Dalmaty si c'est vrai, j'espère que ça mieux aller rapidement. Bon courage !
Cela dit, c'est une remarque valide sur à quel point les « ça va » et "how's it going" n'attendent pas de réponse sincère.... J'ai essayé d'être plus sincère avec les personnes relativement proches récemment.

🎉 Today was 100th payday! We transferred €1532 and $132 from 958 patrons to 295 creators and projects.

Fun fact: back in February 2016 our first payday had moved €5 between 9 users.

@confusedcharlot @Gargron @Nezchan @caelan @nolan I have experienced that with music: I decided that I want to support people who work for the commons, so I pretty much stopped getting music that does not have some sort of free culture license. I then figured out I still have plenty to choose from for my radio shows - more than I can deal with actually.

@nolan @caelan @Nezchan @Gargron @confusedcharlot I feel like it's a mix of FOMO and laziness that doesn't allow people to move away from the behemoths. I think we could really benefit from realising that the Internet has reached a kind of "post scarcity" state in which, even if you leave a big chunk of whatever you are interested in or connected with out, you can still have more than enough somewhere else.
