Back in 2007 I downloaded a file called unk.mp3 off the campus file sharing network. It is really good, and I've never been able to figure out who made it or where it is from.

"Here in Neotokyo millions of survivors swell in a chaotic vitality, and surge forward towards an unknown future" are most of the lyrics. It also has the line "you've got to be deaaaddd" (or possibly damned?)

Anyone have any idea what this could be, or where it is from? It isn't in any of the databases I've checked so far.

Related to this, I want to put in details of how instance blocking and lack of federation work.

Important questions that I don't know the answer to. assume in all of these that I am on instance A and instance be has been blocked by instance A:
1) Can I still follow someone on instance B?

2) will I see a message from a user on instance if they @ me?

3) what happens if I am following someone on instance B when it is blocked?

A lot of the existing how to use Mastodon documents seem to be rather technical, or spend more time talking about the advantages of Mastodon than being a straight how to. I was thinking of dusting off my old blog and writing up a very simple clear how Mastodon Works document and recording a YouTube version for people who would prefer to get their information through video. please send me suggestions as to what I should make sure to include.

Question: Does anyone other then Lenovo still make laptops with the button in the centre of the keyboard? I'm looking for a new one, and want to look at alternatives to a T series thinkpad.

The Banff Park Museum can almost be described as a "museum exhibiting a museum" — it preserves its original Victorian-era collection of natural history specimens, much as they would have been seen originally. The hand written labels on these geology specimens especially charmed me.

I dunno if I should feel embarressed if what made me realize I was trans was an old 90's web serial novel of if that's just CYBER as fuck.

or in a socialist discussion group and having to explain that rich people actually have it less hard than poor people
