vinyl is better than CD because its capable of reproducing so much more sound than was even originally recorded in the studio

my favorite part of The Visitors by ABBA is how the intro is interrupted by Benny Andersson switching on his Game Boy

@jk Or in tune with the rest of the chip. I believe I read somewhere that it's about a quarter of a semitone out. Almost good enough for just thirds. If I could remember if it's sharp or flat...

@jk harmonics on the mains are a drawback of todays technology as well as the use of any motors etc. Any metal cased switchmode PSU (like your desktop PC) has filter circuit which supposedly dumps all the EMI to "earth" but on many networks this earth is combined in the neutral cable.at the distribution points, plus the internal wiring in buildings now radiates all this interference (increasingly an annoyance for radio monitoring, the signals even reach into VHF bands nowadays)

its a good job the 2A03 has ADPCM rather than just PCM, because youre gonna need that compression to make up for the fact that u have to ship 2 or 3 different tunings of each of your samples because the pitch register doesnt have enough bits to play a proper set of notes

@MightyPork @jk I've seen better sine waves from the DPCM channel on a 2A03...

@jk and also here are spectrograms of the noise produced by a laptop charger, regrettably without a scale https://dev.glitch.social/media/cpYxjZ5rLFgaSvfK4cI https://dev.glitch.social/media/582NJ3lc5ZXnoxYwWXM

@jk I've actually done this for my thesis and can affirm that there's anything but sine waves going on - those are current waveforms with a motor, messing it up for anything nearby

what if instead of electricity they just transmitted energy by making the cables flap up and down to create an undulating wave

@vfrmedia @Skirmisher @elomatreb i'd always wondered how they dealt with that! and i guess you need a capacitor to smooth out the rise/fall time when it's switching?

if you ever actually look at the fuckin mains electricity wave, its never a sine wave, its always something fucked up like out of a korg DW-8000 or a kawai k3. its full of really fucked up shit. why dont they fix it. its probably making all those electromechanical clocks at provincial railway stations run at 7x the correct speed and nobodys even noticed. and if u think thats bad u should see what comes out of a car inverter
