@joseph @Matter Good question! Its certainly a popular point of discussion, but I'm not sure if it's on the roadmap.

@ajroach42 If you're on LinkedIn, add "seeking new opportunities" to your headline. Also, under the Jobs section, there is a hidden variable you can set to let recruiters know you're searching.

@joseph Not quite that cut and dry. Instances don't sync your profile (so you can't just set up shop elsewhere, like a cloud backup), but they do sync your toots for a certain time period.

You have the ability to download your profile from your instance, but not the ability to upload it elsewhere at this point. So you don't necessarily lose your data, but you do lose your presence when an instance closes.

Does that make sense?

Just fixed the office coffee machine so, yeah, I think the term "hero" is appropriate.

I've been unemployed for about 2 months, and today is my first day at a new job.

And it just feels so weird.

In my mind, I think, "Today will be fun! Meet some new people, check things out, learn something."

Then, I realize I'll also be there tomorrow. And the next day. And most days after that.

And periodically they will also send me money.

And, while my new job is pretty cool, I'm mourning all of the time I'm about to lose.

I've never felt quite so mixed about starting a new role before.

@thurloat Alternative interpretation: strength in numbers. Privacy-enhancing apps can't get blocked (by IP anyway) if running on same infrastructure as everything else.

I love that this is actually a discussion in Canada - and poverty isn't so extreme that this is out of reach.
