Also, Linux Fest might be the first time I've seen a long line outside the dude's bathroom, and no wait for the ladies. There's a selling point for inviting more ladies into nerddom!

In the vendor hall, there was a distinct lack of people around the Microsoft booth. I was amused. -

I'd second that. I run it on my older low-powered machine because it is lightweight and runs well. I've had good luck with Debian too, but I like MX's desktop. I honestly hadn't paid much attention to the SystemD angle. I don't much care so long as it works. I haven't tried Devuan. -

That's awesome! I hope the States get it together and follow suit! Some cities ban plastic grocery bags and straws, which is good but all those plastic disposables need to go. -

Agreed!! Most everyone thinks the current printer system is crap, but it's what we have, so we just muddle along. That's a pretty lame way to do things. Bleh. -

That's good to know! I managed to revive this one with a manual paper towel print head cleaning, but I'll check that out when I have to replace it for real. I want to support the most ethical, sensible option I can find. -
C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Mar-2019 15:10:17 EDT C.Cameron Update! No longer complaining!
Just mad gratitude to this wonderful human and the video about cleaning the print head, with a damp paper towel, which revived my printer, so it now prints. Super easy too. Hooray!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thrZtvAhKm0
Gosh. I was so cranky there.

Fighting printer battles and it's the worst! I just spent $70 on ink cartridges for a printer that immediately stopped printing, and they don't make printers that use that ink anymore. Blarg! The printer industry is just mean. Is there an ethical open source printer company or something? There has to be a better way.

Totally! That sounds great. Ubunta Mate is my main distro most of the time. Just fun to try out some other stuff occasionally too. :) -
C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Mar-2019 14:01:52 EDT C.Cameron I think it's about time to give Solus another go. My writing laptop needs a refresh.
I have Elementary on it, in an attempt to keep it simple, but it's just not quite working for me. I'm not knocking Elementary. It's mostly because dark theme doesn't apply to Zim, my main writing program. It's funny how one little detail can break the whole experience.

switching.social (switchingsocial@mastodon.at)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Jul-2018 10:31:40 EDT switching.social You can avoid #YouTube's weird algorithms and broken subscription system by subscribing to channels through RSS instead. You don't need an account, just a feed reader.
Put the channel's username in this address:
https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?user=USERNAME
You can then add this RSS address to your feed reader app.
For example, OnePotChefShow's RSS feed is:
https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?user=OnePotChefShow
You can also make RSS feeds from channel IDs (strings of letters and numbers):
https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=CHANNELID

That's bummer-y timing! I missed last years too, and was glad for the videos. It's a bit of a drive, but I'm excited that it's accessible for me at all. -
