@Linux
That looks awesome. Looking forward to specifics about production and availability...

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Thursday, 28-Feb-2019 12:58:24 EST C.Cameron I recently realized that we had a "smart" thermostat installed. I don't need to change the temperature from my phone, so I turned off the internet connection to it.
What's weird, is that it previously had a big delay after pressing a button to change the temperature one degree, press again, big lag. After I turned off the internet, there's suddenly no delay.
So I don't know who it was trying to send that info to, but it's a little creepy.

I'm not professional at any of this, but I would think so. I always feel uncomfortable with a pile of plugins and themes from various developers that I'm just trusting to be safe, but can't really be sure. -

Me too! I've been using Hugo as well for a different site, and am a huge fan of the static site trend. -

That sounds pretty sweet. I don't actually know PHP (I'm not a programmer), it was just the simplest way I could figure out to pull in a single file for the header and navigation, so I wouldn't have to make changes on every page to update the menu.Exactly! I feel like I was using way more complication than necessary to accomplish a simple task, so stripping it down feels pretty fun.

That's cool. I tried Jekyll, and wound up using Hugo. It's possible I wasn't patient enough to get it up and running and fully appreciate it though. :) -
C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Saturday, 23-Feb-2019 12:48:08 EST C.Cameron I tried out Jekyll, and found I preferred Hugo, but haven't tried HTMLy. So many new things to try that I hadn't even heard of!

I still use wordpress too so I'm not dissing it. But Grav looks awesome. I am doing a new site in wordpress specifically because I need to hand it over to be managed in the future by ladies who are not tech savvy. So a best of both worlds option would be great.Yeah, comments sound like a huge hassle. Maybe that'll be built into one of these static site or flat file CMS systems one of these days...

I do like those a lot too. I have been using Hugo for my small blog site. -

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 22-Feb-2019 21:51:29 EST C.Cameron A lot of small businesses use huge clunky database sites, when a minimal site like this would serve them way better. (In my opinionated opinion.)

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 22-Feb-2019 21:49:34 EST C.Cameron It's not for everyone maybe, but I think handcoding a web site in html and css is less work than doing a comparable site in wordpress. Just text, links and image galleries, and a couple php tags so I can use one menu across all pages.
Maybe I'll think about a way to add a form eventually, but that's not important right now.
I'm pumped about my 1.2 second load time, and that's before I've optimized images.
I told my friend about it and she did not understand the joy this brings. 😆
