Conservatism, as a political philosophy, doesn't exist anymore, I don't think. It's been entirely replaced by worship of Trump and hatred of liberals. It's more like a cult than a political movement. Historians of the future will puzzle over this for a long time to come.

So apparently I'm going to be moonlighting as a middle school history teacher.

27 years ago today was the coup in the Soviet Union. I remember watching this breathlessly, and how it turned out was pretty amazing. August in Moscow, 1991: the coup that ended an empire.
