That's the same guy who seems to take just a little too much delight in people dying in idiotic/bizarre ways (Darwin award type of stuff). It's not that he likes Darwin awards that bothers me, but he continually says stuff like "I wish a lot more people would die that way and rid the world of stupid people." Just little dark clues like this, make me cringe.

Another guy I know, not a bad guy at heart, is continually outraged by the latest doings of Antifa. Though he never talks about what Nazis do except that "they're all idiots." I don't think he's a racist, but focusing on Antifa's excesses and being silent on the right wing is a little troubling.

A kid I know (I call him kid, he's 20) continually falls for right wing talking points, like this "Muslim rape gangs" thing in the UK. And other bits of alt-right propaganda for which he seems to fall more or less innocently. But he still shares Stefan Molyneux crap and says stuff like, "You know, Milo has a point about feminists." This guy is transgender. I don't get it, but breaks my heart.

The script for my "World War II Aftermath" class begins with the occupation of Germany, and ends with Brexit. That's pretty comprehensive, wouldn't you say?

Cold, snowy Monday morning. My husband was out of bed when I got up (he works super early, before I get up), so I guess he must be feeling better.

Great class today! I finally got to all the material I hoped to cover. First time that's happened.

Just finished my script for tomorrow's class, about the end of World War II in Europe. It's a good class. I think I'm getting pretty skilled at this!

@craigmaloney The birdsite is going to waste millions on these tech nips and tucks, while batting away the reality of what they need to make the site work: start banning Nazis.

"Whiplash" is a beautiful but terrifying film, especially for a teacher. It shows us the dark side of what immense power we (teachers) have and how it can be horribly misused. If I taught history the way this guy teaches music, everyone would become math majors!

I love that there's no hostility on my Mastodon timeline the day after a tragedy. That was always one of my biggest problems with the birdsite.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me that bitcoin is nothing more than play money for Libertarians.

@ink_slinger This article gets one thing right: let's stop taking Nazis' protestations about free speech at face value. Free speech "absolutists" generally are not absolute at all. They want hate speech protected and marginalized groups totally silenced. I wish the "free speech" crowd would recognize that more often than it does.
