Just spent 10 mins email to my MP thanks to encouragement of @openrightsgroup to speak out on The #Immigration Exemption.

Despite 10% processing error rate, it effectively seeks to block access to legal recompense against such errors for people seeking to start a new life in the #UK. A lot of media talk of the Windrush Generation lately - history is repeating itself and right before our eyes!

Please take moment to read and consider taking #action:

The Home Office have lost the plot. In 2010, they destroyed the landing cards of people who came to the UK to work and live, knowing that these were vital evidence for people to prove their status as legal residents.

Google contracts ARE a problem. It's a problem for the entire industry. I've switched this toot public so everyone sees my transparency on this issue.

As a volunteer I have a role in representing the community in internal conversations. I assure you I *very often* have those difficult conversations. We're in transition.

Many here in Mastodon are examples of biz model alternatives. We see you!

    Some of today's library research:

In postmodern ads, people were portrayed as egocentric individuals, led to believe their lives needed to be enmeshed in ticking off iconic consumables from an expanding list of new variants of beloved products or the latest innovation. They were (and are still) led to seek a likeness between themselves & their shopping, or corporations they choose to patronise.

Advertising has advocated the substitution of living with 'having' a lifestyle.

Open Source voice assistant #Mycroft (yes an actual open source alternative of Amazon Alexa and Google Home) has not only almost hit 800% of its Indiegogo funding in Feb, but has recently switched to #Mozilla's #DeepSpeech project.

Deep Speech is just one of over a hundred projects taking part in #MozSprint May 10-11. They're especially seeking voices of NON ENGLISH speakers.

More new contributors added to these open projects = more real world innovative alternatives.

Saturated fat does not clog the arteries: coronary heart disease is a chronic inflammatory condition, the risk of which can be effectively reduced from healthy lifestyle interventions
from British Journal of Sports Medicine
Coronary artery disease pathogenesis and treatment urgently requires a paradigm shift. Despite popular belief among doctors and the public, the conceptual model of dietary saturated fat clogging a pipe is just plain wrong. A landmark systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies showed no association between saturated fat consumption and (1) all-cause mortality, (2) coronary heart disease (CHD), (3) CHD mortality, (4) ischaemic stroke or (5) type 2 diabetes in healthy adults.1 Similarly in the secondary prevention of CHD there is no benefit from reduced fat, including saturated fat, on myocardial infarction, cardiovascular or all-cause mortality.2 It is instructive to note that in an angiographic study of postmenopausal women with CHD, greater intake of saturated fat was associated with less progression of atherosclerosis whereas carbohydrate and polyunsaturated fat intake were associated with greater progression.3 The inflammatory processes that contribute to cholesterol deposition within the artery wall and subsequent plaque formation (atherosclerosis), more closely resembles a ‘pimple’ (figure 1). Most cardiac events occur at sites with <70% coronary artery obstruction and these do not …

Set the date: May 10-11 #Aardwolf will be taking part in a GLOBAL 48 hour hack.

Whether you know people coding in #Rustlang, can help write basic #documentation, #design engaging Web pages, or simply just amplifying the fact the project exists!

Based on #Mastodon, Aardwolf is seeking to build a #federated alternative to Facebook. It's a huge ask, and it will need people just like us rallying together in support along the way.

All the #Mozfest dialogues and debates videos have *finally* been. I'm going to celebrate by watching the discussion between data scientist Emily Gorcenski and Sarah Jeong

Come back to Mastodon @sarahjeong we miss you on here!

Had an awesome chat over a drink with Emily, where she spoke about facing up to Nazis, punching them, and holding a gun to one of their heads in her town Charlottesville.

Can't describe how amazing to me she is. Simply incredible human.

#Firefox #Nightly has been running a spectacular experiment on the path to increasing #security of all users..

I shared announcement last week about blocking insecure content in HTTPS https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mozilla.dev.platform/xjZQq0kEauM

..the Telemetry data is coming in - and it's pretty exciting news for Mozilla's #websecurity team.

In more than 12M connections only 4 reports of breakages.

Effectively upgrading all the connections to HTTPS.

E2E is a non-trivial complexity in federation like Mastodon. Collectively we could bring eyes to this issue, it would be pretty awesome to give the conversation further momentum?
