@unascribed ah fuck the abstraction is breaking down, there's no dns inside the chroot because resolv.conf is managed by systemd in /run/systemd which is all empty files in the chroot :dragnsob:

@unascribed its more like an inception kind of worry, like "oh shit am i in the chroot or the real filesystem"
