@kevinflo My big teenage musical crush Queen, and it's still my favorite band, is a lot like that and I love them for it. 1970s Queen is so 1970s and 1980s Queen is so 1980s. But still so much Queen at the same time.
I went to a half-of-Queen concert just a few years ago. It was awesome. Just old guys on stage having fun with their friends and the fans on the floor who love them.
Correction: True alarm. But nixpkgs wasn't the culprit, nix itself was. Nix 2.1 creates a derivation with builder "builtins:buildenv" to create your nix profile. You need a 2.1 nix-daemon for that, so upgrade the daemon before the front-end.
``` $ nix-env -iA nixpkgs.nix replacing old 'nix-2.1pre6148_a4aac7f' installing 'nix-2.1.1' building '/nix/store/7ln58dlcma4biz36k86jfn7ilajrv9a2-user-environment.drv'... error: unsupported builtin function 'buildenv' ```
I think it stands to reason that the commit that introduced Nix 2.1 should be relying on Nix 2.1 constructs, so I'm pretty confident this should be a good interim step:
@kensanata It seems very appropriate that I'm commenting on this thread halfway through your normal 8-week expiry time. :-)
Will this post stay up longer?
As late as yesterday, somebody linked to a 9 months old conversation that Ideas mentally referring to. I have on multiple occasions gone back to 2008-2010 to gauge and remind myself of conversations we had back then. People are talking about documenting Fediverse history. I have a year-old thread that I keep returning to to add little things and which will one day become the foundation of an HPR episode.
These things are all counter to what you are proposing.
It's possible that people overvalue permanence and should embrace the ephemeral, but at least to me, this is part of how we talk now. I mourn the (practical) loss of the archives of identi.ca, *.status.net, parlementum.net, microca.st, micro.fragdev.com and others.
@fitheach@kensanata Exactly. A lot of people are upset about which time zone they seem to be choosing (but which a majority of the survey takers supported), but I couldn't care less. As long as they stop fiddling with it twice a year I'm satisfied.
