so we have a student who we asked to train a VAE to generate memes. he was showing us his newest model, which has problems with mode collapse, and was only outputting one thing over and over again (I swear I am not making this up):

"one does not simply make memes"

With great power comes a whole buttload of admin work.

@denikombucha @kavbojka This is why, although I always use lab safety when running my own experiments, I volunteer to be a test subject in lots of studies at the nearby university.

I'm bound to get superpowers at some point if I'm a lab rat long enough. Plus some of them pay pretty well.

I trust vaccines because of doctors. The medical community. Friends who do medical research or work within that field.

Not because of "what I read online". It's a sensible opinion to distrust everything, even something basic like sleeping, but to go from there to distrusting all experts based on hear-say (and it is hear-say) isn't sensible.

@strypey Anti-vaccination sentiment is older than the official debut of vaccinations and the coinage of the word, and the arguments are the same as ever -- they don't work, they're harmful, it's against nature/God, you're better off getting sick -- all based on misconceptions and spin when it comes to standard schedule vaccines, but the "new" one is the autism scare, which may have been founded on genuine concern and caution back in the 90s before Wakefield, but cannot today be called anything but a thoroughly debunked complete fabrication.

@strypey It may not be productive or well thought through. Mostly it's just people being fed up with people being wrong on the internet, especially when it's putting children in harm's way.

I wonder if this holds internationally, or if it's an American thing to bone away every week, maybe because they feel that they should? I remember some actress saying that they would have sex every Thursday night whether they were in the mood or not, because the mood would usually come anyway, and if you skipped one week you probably wouldn't do it the next week either and then your relationship would be going down the drain fast.

a lot of my selfhosting choices have been based on similar logic.

so much of it is a least-broken compromise though.

, python3 is next on my programming language sorta-bucketlist, once I finish getting functional competancy with https://openeuphoria.org/

Thoughts on (other) decent languages for application-layer software? I hear good things about Rust, but also have heard good things about Go.
