@dpreacher You can also use PYTHONPATH to override a lot of stuff without editing system files:

$ cat > /tmp/httplib.py
1/0

$ PYTHONPATH=/tmp /usr/bin/python
[...]
>>> import httplib
Traceback (most recent call last):

File "/tmp/httplib.py", line 1, in <module>

@dpreacher BTW, I always use Python from homebrew for this and other reasons. It installs into /usr/local and you can edit its files just like any other normal software.

@dpreacher I think you're ascribing motivations to me that I didn't have. I wasn't asking you do defend your requirements. I was asking what they were in case I knew of something that might help you.

Also, turns out you can edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config and set "PermitRootLogin yes". I just tried it and was able to SSH into my laptop as root.
