Futzed with some typography on the #DnD site to give it a little more medieval character, less "I threw this together at the last second two years ago."

The body's typeface more evokes old texts rather than emulates; I found a lovely handdrawn manuscript font but while authentic it made the text authentically difficult to read.

@akuchling at least amongst my corner of the fediverse the preferred method is "don't." it provides a really subpar experience for your mastodon followers and is sort of antithetical to the whole reason for Mastodon existing in the first place.

Finally I suggested giant robots with umbrellas, which met with general approval, though we did schedule a follow-up to examine question of the Inevitable Giant Robot Uprising.

while walking to school in the mornings I engage the boys in all manner of intellectual pursuits. Today we discussed how to Defeat Rain. I made several proposals, a rejected:

- force rain to manifest 1" above grass (impractical, clouds required)
- move everything we care about into the sky, above the rain clouds (no food)
- move everything but farmers into the sky and use birds to deliver food (birds would eat the food)

Here's what I love about Tolkien: I have been reading my kids the LOTR, and we are well into ROTK now; Aragorn has just arrived at Gondor to the rescue of Éomer, and Tolkien's overwrought, overwritten, rotund wordplay makes it as grandiose and amazing as it needs to be, and it retroactively justifies all the poetry involved in moving people around for two books. You just need to buy in all the way and be swept up in its utter lack of irony. #DadOps
