I know I'm not posting much about #mnm (https://mnm.social) these days and the project is in maintenance mode.
However, someone asked me to release a dump of the data I gathered about Mastodon instances, to use it for a reasearch project and I thought you may be interested.
This is more than a year of anonymous data about instances, users, status, localisation, etc.
Instructions to download and use the dumps are available here:
Me, when I read 100500 character long posts through #Mastodon multi-column interface #overwhelmed ...Perhaps there could be a "read more" auto-thingy with several lines preview? Even diaspora, which *is* for macroblogging, auto hides long text
Anyone wants to run a Mastodon instance on gnu.church? I bought that domain when I was drunk and have no use for it. It redirected to templeos.org as a joke, but that seems inappropriate now that Terry died.
Anyway, if anyone has a good idea on what to do with it, it’s yours.
@unmellow Friendica does not have a proliferation of themed servers (there is one for LoTR fans though: mordor.social). A domain closest to your interests is https://nerdica.net . Currently Friendica uses forums, not themed servers, for communication by interests.
@wakest I second this feature and plan to suggest it in Socialhome network (am currently working on redesign). In Vkontakte a similar feature is called "Bookmark user", it lets one add users to bookmarked list and return to their profiles any time, but does not add these people to one's timeline and does not notify them that you "bookmarked" them. Can be useful.
@GardenOfForkingPaths Today the two posts that errored out yesterday (on different servers) can both be viewed when clicking on timestamp. Which means they weren't deleted - which means everything's probably alright with toot deletion. 🤓 Technology is so unreliable :/
I occasionally click on timestamp of some toots in my timeline to read the thread, but get "The page you were looking for doesn't exist" or "We're sorry, but something went wrong on our end". The toot was obviously deleted on the server it originated from. What's this? Mastodon does not send a notification to delete the toot from all servers it was delivered to?
@MrConway Forgot to say: if Hubzilla can't find Mastodon users, it's either this particular admin disabled federation of his hub with AP networks (I think demo Hubzilla hub did that), or (most likely) you didn't enable ActivityPub plugin in your profile settings.
Microblogging (1/1, 1/2, 1/😫 ) will be the death of me. But I'll have my revenge. I'll lure you all, people, to macroblogging Fediverse platforms and then!... Then I'll turn you into graphomaniacs - muahaha!
@MrConway I come from diaspora and regard ActivityPub as one option. Friendica communicates seamlessly with diaspora, Hubzilla mostly too. Both work to support AP - both won't see your rant, unless you open issues in their repos ;) OStatus future is murky, but hey - 5 projects talk diaspora protocol (soon 7? postActiv & Pleroma?). All projects try to add AP. Having > people work on < networks would be better - not to produce a Zoo, but... programmers love to write own code.
