@jaywink Yess! Breaking things feels good 😅 Friendica has (had?) a similar issue (perhaps, better to call it "Fedi inconsistency"). This is a (cool, imho) Mastodon feature: one can start a limited dialogue with the author on their public post.
If you see an open-source project that has support for Twitter (in one way or another, could even be just linking to Twitter profiles in a website theme) but not Mastodon, go file an issue and ask kindly for it to support Mastodon, too.
#privacy groups (in Friendica, Hubzilla) / aspects (in diaspora) are powerful. Apart from simplifying sharing limited content with large lists of people, they also not_disclose all the recipients in UI (unless all recipients decide to show up in comments). Without channels (present only in Hubzilla) this "content management" makes it trivial to i.e. post in different languages specifically to friends who speak this language. Discussion in #Mastodon - https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/7182
@masterofthetiger I agree it's unexpected. There have been forks translating / adopting switching.social content to other languages (I think the license allows it), so why not.
Guess I'm really dumb, cause I can't seem to understand why so much is being done to prevent public content from being public, and (comparatively) so little to make "limited" messages more private (i.e. private from administrators). Eh.
It is hard to think of a greater stamp of authenticity than the US government filing a lawsuit claiming your book is so truthful that it was literally against the law to write.
Welcome to INDIEWEB.SOCIAL - a home for those who build, study, promote - or are just fascinated by - #openweb, #indieweb, #federated & #humanetech practices & tech.
Special thanks to @jeannie who is a co-admin here, & who graciously donated the domain name to this effort. Key links:
@andycuccaro yes, it's open at the moment - https://zotum.net/register. In Hubzilla the link to terms can usually be found on server's signup page - https://zotum.net/help/en/TermsOfService. Good luck with testing the network - be ready for exploring a lot, and don't forget to install / activate ActivityPub and diaspora addons, if you wish to connect with other platforms. 🙂
@pixelfed May be handy to link from pixelfed.org to a curated list enumerating current / future mobile (and other) apps compatible with Pixelfed. Would definitely help new users.
P.S. if you're a hubmin and you want to take part in #Fediverse statistics (crawlers and other hubs know about federating nodes anyway), please, enable nodeinfo in settings
@hypolite@kosebamse You're mentioning a serious problem which, I agree, is as acute today as if we were still in middle ages. But in the case of the film festival, I think it happens all around Europe and in other countries actually includes "fantasy, horror and thriller" genres in festival name. So my main objection is that by omitting those to make the title shorter / better, they're somewhat misleading new audience.
Saw this cool #bike completely covered in #stickers parked next to mine yesterday. Had to leave a #Socialhome sticker for them, just in case they need more 😁
