>If you’re planning to launch a startup aimed at becoming the next Twitter, here’s a way to outfit your pad with digital whiteboards and espresso machines: Buy some discarded from Twitter itself. > >The once-ascendant, now-beleaguered social media firm will be the subject of an online auction in January on hundreds of lots of furniture and equipment culled from its headquarters at 1355 Market St. in San Francisco. Individual items will start at $25 when bidding begins on Jan. 17 for the two-day event. Lots such as a dozen ergonomic Knoll chairs — which start at $300 for 12 — have higher opening prices. > >Some items seem designed for selfie posts on a rival platform, Instagram, such as the 41-inch-tall statue of Twitter’s iconic blue bird logo. There’s also an “@” symbol that’s 6-feet-3 inches tall — a “sculpture planter” that for now holds faux flora but “can be placed with real plants.” >...
>DelBene said he’s navigating around these challenges. On the salary front, he’s working to close about 60% of the pay gap that exists between IT jobs in the private sector and the federal government by building a special salary rate for IT professionals. He’s confident it will be approved by the Office of Personnel Management early next year. > >He’s also looking to streamline the hiring process so that offers to the right candidates can be made more quickly. Woodworking, Blacksmith and Metal fabrication shops that are not quite maker spaces but do allow (assuming some level of experience) to use their space for things you might want to do for minimal cost, especially when you take into account the cost of some of the equipment they offer. It looks like they have places listed around the globe, I found US, UK and Germany so far.
@lnxw48a1 This is just the inverse of someone like Kevin Mitnick who went from hacker to working in security. I am quite sure there were people who thought this is the last place he should be.
