    I'd rather not buy any computing equipment (regardless of price) whose software only the vendor is allowed to audit or fix.
    I'm old enough to remember how much work went into checking and fixing stuff so that Y2K was a whimper rather than a boom.
    yeah, fixable software can be patched and problems can be avoided. it's proprietary software that only suppliers can fix that has me worried, because they're more likely to leave old stuff unmaintained, unfixed and unfixable to make you buy their newer products

    Last year, for the kids' birthdays, I sent a couple of strings of color changing LED lights. Recently, #sonTwo finally got time to set them up. #GS3 said "Thank you Grandpa for the lights" and #GS4 squealed with joy in the background.

    Well, there was one place where the cornbread was pretty bad. But we know the fix:

    Start by obtaining the use of one time machine. Go back to the time when the cook was mixing together the ingredients and prevent them from using ingredients which should not be included in cornbread.

    There's been an effort in the US to add HPV vaccination to the required list for all schoolkids around ages 11-12. It would be an easier sell if they included protection from other Papillomavirus species that are believed to be carcinogenic, so that it isn't just "take this shot to protect others" (now that we know how much opposition this brings), but "take this shot to protect yourself and others".
