Even the columnist suspects this is someone playing games with her, though.
I certainly hope the letter writer isn't really raising a child under such bizarre pressures. I'm in favor of not being racist, but IMO, having close contacts (friends, family, etc) who have different ancestries is all one would do for a two-year old.
@coolboymew @mangeurdenuage The weirdest thing is that #Twitter in the early days was a hotbed of real discussions, despite not having any real conversational features built in. Over time, a combination of too-rapid growth and their changes to the site made it so that conversation is painful (and prone to attract angry extremists who flock into one's mentions and immediately mark the person as part of $OTHER_GROUP.
And that's where many of #Mastodon's angry extremists learned how to coordinate and attack, so they can be really brutal to the unprepared.
Probably a good time to mention that the next version of Mastodon will finally make account suspensions reversible (with a separate option to delete data when needed). Been working on that for a few weeks (among other things)
> I agree, but it won't happen as long as racial/feminist studies and similar are taught to distract the students mind from learning something that is pragmatic/useful for them and their community.
I say it in a joking manner, but when I was a business major in the state university, I had to take two such classes. In the first one, I learned that everything that is wrong with the world is my fault for being a heterosexual Christian male. In the second one, I learned that it wasn't really my fault, because I'm Black.
My country, the US of A, is a giant mixture of ancestries and ethnic groups. The best thing for US is to stop this idiocy and get back to learning to study together, work together and live together in the same schools, employers, and neighborhoods and make life better for everyone here.
If your nations are still mostly mono-ethnic, get used to intermingling, because with world trade, your countries and almost all other countries also will eventually be comprised of people whose ancestries come from all around the world.
So I don't support schools or other institutions that cater only to $ANCESTRY. Or $ANCESTRY only communities. I think that sort of thing was banned for good reason, and despite left-wingers' failure to understand it, it should not be allowed to return.
@dude @mangeurdenuage@loadaverage.org I've never been a fan of these FCC bandwidth auctions. The #FCC was created to steward radio frequencies and other electronic communications for the benefit of the nation and its people, but auctions distract them from that duty by making them seek to sell more and more frequency allocations to the highest bidding corporations.
In this way, they can turn their backs completely on their legislated duties while claiming that auction fees prove they're doing their job correctly.
@mike That's good advice. Also, if you have household pets, be ready to gather them and flee EARLY. Often, if you wait until authorities say to evacuate, you get escorted to "no pets" locations and pets may be left to fend for themselves.
