@rrix @mangeurdenuage @awg It isn't just companies. The OPM breach was a government agency that collected a huge amount of data about federal employees and applicants (and their families) and failed to protect it.
It isn't just profit motive (e.g., capitalism). It seems to have some relationship to the power differential between $ORGANIZATION and $HUMAN.
Or when its done implicitly by third parties outside of our control like in the case of credit reporting ...
The exchange here is "exist in modern society" which is not an equitable or consensual exchange, both literally and figuratively. There's a reason Equifax has 143mm Americans' information and it's not cause we're all super fucking excited to participate in debt-based society.
I don't think [insert ideology] has something to do with this. People on the other hand are part of it. Would you handle clear data to a stranger ? Never trust a third party, and if so don't give it anything chance of using information that you don't want it to exploit.
@schestowitz The consequences of even one getting through are insanely high. Without even going into further detail, that alone should cause people to seek to avoid nuclear war.
