The story of the competition between MS-DOS and DR-DOS is quite interesting. Microsoft specifically tweaked Windows' code so it wouldn't run on DR-DOS, even if there were no technical limitations for it.
There was a millionaire lawsuit and Microsoft settled out of court.

Pierced by an ovipositor, like a parasitoid wasp that stings and paralyzes a spider, then deposits its eggs in the spider. The spider gets eaten alive from the inside by wasp larvae. That's got to be among the most painful and terrifying things that could happen.
